Shocks aren't that difficult to install. Basically, any decent mechanic can do it.

By the way, welcome to the forms. 00000732

Please update your profile. Easy to do. Click on "CP user" in upper right of screen (on smartphone use PC mode). That will take you to a page where you can click on the "Edit Profile" link on the left side of the screen. You should update the year, model, and engine of your vehicle. Also, please include your general location city/area, state, and country. We have members all over the world. Different countries may have differences in models and laws/regulations. THANKS!!!

Rear shocks...

Greetings, I'll bet you're glad you did them yourself with how easy it really was! Can you imagine paying for that job? :surprise: Not that I discourage going to a mechanic, there are just some things that we as "pedestrians" are able to do ourselves. :grin2:

Did mine last week as well (swap to KYB). It was simple, but then I do have the torque wrench, a couple of jacks, jack stands, etc.... :) I'm just not certain I've noticed a marked improvement. I don't know how to test the car to where I can say "Yes! That's MUCH better!!" Its not keeping me awake at nights... but I wish I had a definitive answer. I'll have to bring it to an autocross event, see how she does!

My comparison was my daily ride to and from the hospital. After the install, I enjoyed that trip a lot better. A test drive around our neighborhood had me convinced. But once I hit the highway?

I think they had about 50k on them when I traded. Still performing well.

KYB's available in Canada

just a heads up for fellow Canadians wanting to upgrade to the KYB's and searching for a source in Canada...
Amazon.Ca has them listed (and for a fair price considering exchange and shipping) (I am seeing $169 + $18 shipping for a pair.)
Here is a link
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00C89QT6K

I searched some time ago.... and they only places I could find to buy in Canada were off dealers who would buy from a parts warehouse that would not sell direct to me. Prices were crazy then compared to US prices still current.

This might be a better route than ordering from the US and shipping into Canada... or crossing the border to pick them up at a border address.

my shocks have arrived, and I've now got to get them installed. pretty excited about it and I want to do it as soon as possible. Is there any last minute advise I can get about this installation of the KYB 554384 on my 2013 Elantra GT GLS. I won't be doing the work actually myself but I will be present to watch it happen. right now the tires I have is the stock hankooks. just this morning I decided to try a little experiment and checked the air pressure. it was 33 lbs in the back and 32 in the front. I let out some air bringing all of the tires to 31.5 lbs. It made a difference. the car seemed lower and tracked better and that jarring feeling of the road was more cushioned with no apparent drawbacks to other considerations like handling, fuel economy etc.. I will give more feedback when I've had a chance to get the new shocks installed and test them out a bit.

Geez $170?! Amazon has them for $64.78 a piece...

Thank you sir! It's done the shocks are in...took me about an hour and a half ... maybe I could have done it in half the time if my tools were out and accessible.

I took a spin around the block and honestly I didn't feel a huge difference, the back does seem a bit more cushioned though...but I'm not let down by the upgrade. Once I take the car on some twisty bits on my daily commute to which I know what to expect, I'll definitely see the difference.

@purplerain (and others): I sure would like to act surprised by this news. But, I was one of the many in the 1st group back in 2012 that elected to gamble on this mod. And you're so correct: HUGE improvement. BTW, Hyundai "finally" got it right on the 2017's. KYB's not needed until "replacement time."

Congrats! And ENJOY the ride!

I installed the KYBs about 1.5 yrs ago. They did rid the car of the little hop going over railway tracks. This week I changed over to new summer tires from the winter one. Two of the winter tires had cupping and one of my old summer tires did as well. The shop that installed the tires and did a wheel alignment did not mention the wear to me so do not know where on the car the tires where installed. Suspecting the front struts I did the bounce test, the front was solid and the rear bounces like the Easter bunny.

I drive about 200km/day, 80% highway. So after 45k km the KYBs are worn out, not impressed. They should have lasted at least 90k km. On my previous 07 Ford Focus the shocks and struts lasted to about 200k.
For the price of these shocks I would expect better life out of them. Needless to say they were the first KYBs I bought and will be the last KYBs. I have read on other forums people saying the KYBs having a short life.
