Hopefully this guide will help answer some questions people have.

You will need:

-Interior trim removal tool

-Map light, 2 x T10 LED

-Rear Dome light, 1 x 30mm or 31mm festoon LED

-Vanity light, 2 x 28mm festoon LED

-Glove box light, 1 x 30mm or 31mm festoon LED

-Trunk light, 1 x 30mm or 31mm festoon LED

-License plate, 2 x T10 LED

The removal of the trim is probably the most challenging part of this and is probably a 2/10 in difficulty level.

If any of the lights is not coming out try using a piece of cloth to remove it, specially the license plate ones...

Simply look at the pictures and remove the trim exactly where the picture shows. That way you wont crack or scratch anything.

I have not replaced the vanity lights or the glove box light yet.

You can use Amazon or eBay or whatever and just type the name of the light as it appears in this guide and you'll be given many options. I believe the stock LED are either 5000K or 6000K.

Any questions, let me know.

These LEDs did not work for the license plate lights. 4 SMDs that are pointing downward were broken when installing the light into the holder. I'll see how bright the remaining 16 SMDs make the license plate light and report back.

Other than that, the map and dome light were very easy to change with no problems and no scratches when I used your indications on how to remove.

Olvr007, OR anyone who has done this, do you have a pic of the bulb for your vanity lights? The bulbs that came in from www.diodedynamics.com are flat ended bulbs, How am I to get them to snap into the holes for the ends of the OEM bulbs?

Also, note to anyone doing this in the future, do not try to pry the bulb out from the bottom...it will pop out and fly deep in your headliner, never to be seen again.... =|

Yes, use needle nose pliers to install the vanity lights or suffer the concequences... my stock bulb is also in the headliner abyss.

Yeah, i also bought those and they do not work for this application.

These bulbs work and available on amazon but a little more rice (cool white) then i wanted.

The map and dome interior lights are already led as I see it today at dealer. Very warm white and bright. The one in pic is too yellow? Is it led for limited and non-led for the rest?

How do you guys remove trunk light bulb? The bulb is too hot so I try to disconnect first to let it cool a bit, but it doesn't let go. Any idea?

You can see two subtle lips on the cover...get right in between them with a trim remover or a knife tip...work your way around the cover, and it'll pop off. A little pressure/force may be needed...

LED success, blew a fuse, Used only 28mm festoons...

Thank you Olvr007 for such a useful post!! I just got my 2015 Sonata Sport 2.4 a month ago and one of the first mods I wanted to do was switch out all the warm lightbulbs to white LED.

Here's what I purchased
2x
- JDM ASTAR Extremely Bright 5730 SMD T10 LED

1x
- Partsam 6X White 28mm Festoon

I ended up with 4- T10s and 6- 28mm festoons. 2 T10's went into the map light, 2 T10's for the license plate lights, and I used 5 of the 6 28mm festoons for the rear dome light, vanity mirrors, trunk light & glove box. So yes, I just used 28mm for all festoon applications in the car.
No issues at all with the 28mm size festoons except for the glove box! I was impatient and got some needle nose pliers to bend the terminal to make the 28mm fit in a 38mm slot. I had all the LEDs on in the car and while I was jerking the light around the glove box terminals trying to make it fit... suddenly zzt... all the lights in the car went out :surprise:. Turns out I blew my interior lighting fuse. I popped in one of the 10amp spares that's in the fuse box and the car instantly lit up again :nerd:. so be careful!

The plastic trim tools make this job much easier.
Hardest to do was the vanity lights. Holy crap do you have to put some pressure to pop that clear cover off! It’s kinda scary, when it pops off you feel like you just broke something. Olvr007 is correct you just have to get the trim tool in-between the 2 barely visible plastic notches. I can confirm that you can pop the vanity clear plastic cover from either the front or the back, so whichever is easier. Just fit it between the tabs, and use some force to pry it off, just be ready for the sudden plastic cover popping off.
Getting the original vanity lights out once you've got the plastic cover off is tedious. I ended up using 2 trim tools to get each one out. I used one tool to push/bend the terminal larger so the bulb falls out and i used another tool to hook behind the light. So i was basically pushing to terminal to the side with one tool and pulling down on the little light w/ the other. It’s a tight spot and not easy. I got one vanity light out this way no problem, the 2nd one somehow popped upwards and into the abyss :surprise:. I used my finger to carefully feel around and the bulb was within reach. I couldn't fit my finger and the bulb down through the same hole so I used double sided tape around my pinkie and managed to carefully fetch it out :nerd:!
Maplights, Rear dome, Trunk (look for plastic tab on the side), and license plate lights were easy peasy.

I'm very happy with the purchase of the x6 28mm festoons for 10 bucks. These are bright white! Much brighter than the stock bulbs.
I hope this helps some peeps! If you need pics of anything let me know... :grin2:

This was the first thing I did to the car too. I also blew that fuse changing the rear dome light.

Just wandering; did any buy LED 'bulbs' from Alyexpress? Prices are low, low...

Just for fun, I bought universal dome light replacement from Walmart. Package contains 20 LED on printed board, 4 different socket adapters, test switch (so you can see how bright light is) and battery pack. $26+tax or something like that...
It did not fit my car as light cover is very tight so LED gets in a way. I was thinking to adjust housing, do some cutting, bending, soldering but rejected the idea after looking at aliexpress prices or to assemble by own 'LED pack' from LEDs laying around the house...
Package has little box with 10 x LR44 batteries as test power source so no wonder the whole package cost $26+ :)
Anyway, returned it the same day.

Has anyone done LED swapouts on a higher-trim Sonata? I've got a 2015 2.0t Ultimate and I've noticed some of interior bulbs are LED (like the main lights in the roof above the center console) and some are halogen (like the glovebox light, the rear license plate lights, and the backup lights). I've also noticed it's a mixed bag of sizes, i.e. glovebox light is 36mm, trunk light is 31mm. I'm interested to know if anyone is aware of a list that shows, for LED-equipped higher end trim models of the Sonata, from the factory exactly which bulbs are LED and which are halogen and should be replaced with LEDs.
