What happened in or around your Elantra today?

I was in rush hour this afternoon and when I stopped at a light a bird landed on my roof. It hopped around then started messing with the shark fin. When I started moving it flew off. I also got a good deal on a part from a guy on craigslist and found a route to work with less traffic than my usual way.

Went to pick up my bike, shoved it in the back of my car and it fit again! Then I dropped it by my house before taking my car to its service appointment. While my husband and I were waiting, we looked at the new Genesis Coupe, a blue Elantra Limited without nav (like mine) but had tan interior. Didn't care for the Indigo with tan, personally.

Also sat inside an Azera. Really liked it, although didn't seem much roomier than my Elantra. Sat inside a Veloster as well (see below). Seemed fun but less practical. After humoring the salesman for a while, we were finally done with our appointment and headed home. After that I threw together some of my homemade chili (I'll challenge anyone to a cook-off), put it in the crock pot, and then took my bike out for a spin. It was quite fun, although it gave me a workout for sure! I don't think it's great for hills. After forgetting some sour cream, I took a quick jaunt down to 7-11, and I took the Elantra, not the bike! ^_^

Haha...this is cute. Sat in a Veloster today, as I said. It was all right. My husband LOVED it, probably more than I did. I'll stick with my Elantra for the room, though.

Got my tint done today, 35% or "Medium".

Tints look good!

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention. I looked at a Mitsubishi i-Miev today. It was actually bigger than I thought, but did have that global influence. Not a luxury car, although the allure of the electric vehicle hasn't completely gone over my head!

Took my Elantra on it's first real high way trip, my husband's duty station is about 40 minutes away (bless his heart) looks like I need to learn how to drive the mustang, my Elantra will be spending a lot of time out there. The mustang takes a little over 1/4 of a tank there and back, Elantra takes like 1 little line there and back (whatever that little line means)

Washed and polished the Guppy this morning. It was the only opportunity I had for it for a while what with the temps on the rise and storms on the way. Today it was pushing 85F which is the upper limit while applying the Klasse, and a bit over my limit as well.

Tried Klasse's suggestion of a capful of Klasse AIO in the bucket instead of soap- seemed to work great. Then applied the Klasse. Sure is easier than wax to apply and remove. Cloud cover from impending TS made for a dull photo, but I'm pleased with the results.

plastidip = Done

I did the rear emblem finalization last night, and the front took all morning. Three attempts to get this material to stick properly.

Gave Emma a much-needed bath and cleaned up my driver seat. Lots of the usual blue jeans transfer as well as some strange brown/blackish stains along the base near the recline handle and along the right side of the backrest. It all came up with my trusty leather brush and some interior cleaner.

Loaded two bikes on the bike rack and drove about 60 miles up the clearwater river for a long bike ride in the mountains on either side of the river. The Setup worked well but man quite a hit on fuel econ.....27.5 mpg :( ......I did have a heck of a headwind coming back though. I think I will stick to the hitch rack for two bikes in the future. I doubt that will have the same impact mileage.

I don't worry too much about the fuel consumption these days as I initially did. The hit I take on fuel with a bike rack/bikes on the car is fractional when compared to the 25 gallon tank on my V8 truck costing $100 bucks per fill while averaging 13mpg.;)

Miss the truck, don't miss the fill ups.

Speaking of bikes, I had the super-ingenious idea of attempting to take my dog to the nearby field to run around, but had him run alongside my bike. Now, before anyone reads any further, keep in mind: My dog is well-trained on a leash now that I've been working with him for some time.

So, the stretch of street was straight and not very long, with a slight downhill. Unfortunately, I can't quite remember what happened, but I got going too fast and somehow under-corrected so to speak, trying to avoid any run-ins with the dog, and ended up ground beef in someone's driveway. Thankfully yet embarrassingly, the family was home. The lady (whose name I sadly forgot) immediately came out and tended to my knee, which was bleeding profusely through my pants. My bike seemed OK except for the top part of the seat, which is supposed to come off, was off.

I didn't have my cell phone since I was going less than a mile from home, so she let me use her phone to call my husband. He didn't pick up, so she ended up taking me home while her teenage son walked my dog home for me.

As soon as I got home, my husband and younger stepson who is staying with us for part of the summer break (Zack) took me to to the ER, my husband driving my car so I could just stretch out in the back seat. By that time my knee was hurting REALLY bad, worse than when I broke my jaw.

After long periods of waiting and keeping myself distracted making conversation with a nice gal about my age (with a cute young son) in the waiting room, I got in. My wounds (mainly shredded hands and knee) were treated and I was X-rayed. Long story short, the knee did not suffer any tears or breaks - thank goodness - but I did need the hole in my knee stitched shut and some Vicodin.

After getting out, my husband drove my car around until we could find a Walgreens that was 24-hour. Apparently the two locations closest to my house aren't open all night, so we had to go to one in Milwaukie, not too far.

After getting my drugs and extra bandages, I am now relaxing at home, on Vicodin and feeling somewhat better.

My bike is still at the neighbor's house until I can pick it up, and they've got a well-deserved "Thank You" card coming their way!

Talking about hospital and care a friend of mine who's from Vermont but now lives in Canada (he married a Quebeker girl friend of mine) told me he is very happy and spoiled in Canada because he now has a Care card and have acces to free care at the hospital. He told me he used to pay $350/month for insurance in the US. I was like WOW that's a lot per month. He also laughs at his car insurance monthly bill of $50.00 he doesn't understand why we complain so much about everything LOL I'm glad you OK Em, take care of your knee.

Update on my wife's crashed into rock Elantra:

Replaced the strut, which I have to say the Elantra is one of the easiest cars to replace the strut in.

She must have bent the tierod as the front of the tire was kicked out way to the outside when the steering wheel was straight... so I was able to realign it in my driveway with a tape measure so we didnt shred the tires on the way to a real alignment shop.

But if anyone remembers my squirrel story (there have been squirrels or chipmunks getting into my cabin air filter area).. Hyundai makes it super easy for them to do so. When disassembling the front cowel to get to the strut top, you can see into the area where it intake the air for the cabin air..... Well it looks like there is a part missing or they decided to just not cover this gaping hole (about 3in tall by 8-10" wide) that goes right into the cabin. On top of the hole I already found in the wheel well that makes it easy for them to get into that cowel area.... If anyone has taking off that cowel cover (that plastic piece that covers the windshield area with the whipers and covers the strut tops), I would be very interested if there is anything covering that hole on their cars.. It's on the passenger side pretty much aligning with glove box.

If no one has opened that area before then it's only 4 push clip rivet things (reusable plastic things) on the cowel and it just pulls up. You don't have to take off the whiper to see into that area, just open it enough to look in. I have blocked the areas in the wheel well but haven't come up with a good way to block this big hole yet. I will take pictures of that area when I come up with something.

3 weeks ago i found a dead baby mouse in my GT...thought it was a fluke...this morning i went out and opened the passenger door to grab some stuff, and a baby chipmunk scurried out from under my front seat...this is a problem. I will investigate this area on my car and see what can be done.

Poor Holly...she's gonna learn there are some things you might not want to share with the goofball membership on this forum. Present company included.

Seriously, hope her recovery is a speedy one and she can find shoes and a bag to match that "Indigo Blue" touch-up paint on her knee. :whistling:

Yeah biking gloves come in handy to protect your hands if you fall. Im usually on trails but its pretty rocky. They also help you keep a grip on bars when you get sweaty.

Not sure if Darts are available for rental yet, have not even seen one but Enterprise around here seems to like Dodge cars. I guess somebody has to buy them. I need to call the other guys insurance to finalize details in the morning. It would be extra sweet if my rental was an elantra gt. I just love trying out different cars.

Hmmm...interesting point you both bring about. I am used to paying high income tax because Oregon is one of the few states with zero sales tax. I think I could live in Canada. :)

My Elantra is sitting in the driveway today. I think I should be able to drive, but I'm extremely sore today and broke, too. So probably won't be going much of anywhere except to perhaps sell some clothes.

lol my american friend is very happy in Canada, he won't go back in Vermont, he just bought a house in my neighborhood ;) I just renewed my mortgage, I got 5.7% for 5 years. Yesterday I burnt my arm with hot wax from a burning candle that fell while I was cleaning ;( ohhh I am excited and stressed because I'm getting married in 10 days  guess what? a friend of mine will be our chauffeur in his Hyundai Genesis sedan :) that's cool ;) sorry if I talk too much I'm just happy :) Em-carré, you could live in Vancouver, Canada, same weather as Oregon ;) the only place in Canada where winter is mild and rainy!

Dropped off car at body shop today and drove home in a camry. Other option was corolla. The camry is a big fat pig with bad body roll but it rides nice and smooth like the american sedans of the 80s. It also has a great horn and does the cool chirp when you lock it.

Let's see... been driving around in annoying conditions (thanks to Tropical Storm Debby) to get to work the last couple of days. Had a run in with a stray bucket on the way to work today. It made contact with the car, but looks like no harm was done.

Me too, but not as bad as I expected the past 2 days. I can say I absolutely LOVE my Michelin Hydroedge tires.

With the Klasse AIO I applied on Saturday I can see so much road crud just washes off after each downpour

Dome and Interior LED's arrived today. Just completed the install. Piece of cake. (watched that You Tube video on "how to.")

Can't wait until tonight to see the difference in the interior lighting.

i have seen some as well. some of the interior lights seem a little too bright to me. i would still get this kit for the trunk light, and maybe one lamp replacement in the middle front, but not both.

im still looking into the headlights though. i have seen some LED sets for a fairly low cost online. wondering what the major difference is.
