Valvoline Says Dealer Only

My Hyundai dealer says included maintenance is 1 year or 8000 miles. My 22 SF 2.5 Turbo is 6 months old and 4000 miles. Called Valvoline and they won't change it. Valvoline Says Dealer Only, takes special oil. ?????

Just spoke with Jiffylube. Same deal, they will not change the oil. They don't have the filter and won't let me bring a Hyundai filter. What a racket Hyundai has in this oil change situation. The manual calls for
0W-20, API SN PLUS/SP or ILSAC GF-6
Penzoil Platinum Full Synthetic OIL meets those specs. 0W-20 seem a little thin here in the SW Florida heat but I guess the engines are built with that in mind. Valvoline and Mobil One also have full synthetic that meet those specs.

Hyundai says they go by what the Owner's Manual says to do. My manual says to replace oil and filter at 1 Year or 8000 Miles. Hyundai Double Speak!

Are you as confused as I am?
SW Florida's heat should require 0W-30 for sure!

There are two types maintenance schedule listed in the manual. Normal maintenance and Severe maintenance.

Normal one is 8k Mile or 13k KM.
Severe one is 5k Miles or 8k KM.

Most of the folks fall in severe driving condition (or at least I do) based on hyundai analogy for Normal Vs Severe.
Severe is not covered by the included maintenance. Only normal schedule.

Too bad it doesn't :(
Using 0W-30 Full Synthetic Mobil 1 bought on sale as per revised Manual. These days I'm very leery of anyone changing my oil even my longtime Mechanic whom I've trusted for decades. Stealership= no thanks so I'm stuck with doing it myself. Will change every 4000 km...IMO bottom line is the quality of work everywhere has suffered including auto repair shops and until things revert back to normalcy I'll contimue with my own basic maintenance.
Yep. And the Normal Included Maintenance is basically worthless. I can't even get someone to change my oil for me. I used to do it myself but age caught up with me and I can't do it myself anymore. I be damned if I am going to pay the dealer a ridiculous price and very long wait to do it.

My invoice from my dealer said they used 5W-30 on my 2.5T, but the window sticker said 0W-30. When I asked, I was told they have not been able to source 0W-30, so they used 5W-30 semi-synthetic. Since it is summer, I was not concerned about the 5W-30 being used, but definitely prefer full synthetic, so I went ahead and ran it for 1,000 miles and just today did an oil change only (no filter) and put in Mobil 1 AFE 0W-30. The oil that came out was so thin that I am wondering now if they really used 0W-20. Since they got oil all over my entire car when they did the change, I wouldn't doubt it. I plan to have the oil I removed checked. Anyway, I probably won't use the dealer again for oil changes. It's just not worth it. I'm going to have someone do it using my filter and oil every year or 6,000 and I am going to change the oil only every 3,000 using my extractor.
I talked to the manager of a Firestone store here in town. He says he has had trouble getting the 0W-30 Synthetic, only the 0W-20 from his supplier. He told me if I brought in the oil, he would supply he filter and labor for $45 which to me is quite fair. So I found the oil at Walmart and am taking into him to get it changed. He told me his car uses the new 0W-16 oil.

I notice there are two Mobil 1 oils listed on Amazon. Mobil 1 AFE (Advanced Fuel Economy) at $25.02 and Mobil 1 ESP (Extended Performance) at $67.99. I guess the only difference is the ESP is supposedly good for higher miles. The AFE Mobil 1 is listed as API SN PLUS which meets Hyundai's requirements.

ESP= emissions system protection and is not to be confused with EP Extended Performance
Yep, my mistake. I don't know where I saw the EP label.
The Amazon oil is ESP (emissions system protection), but I don't see why it is necessary since the manual says you need oil with the API SN PLUS which according to the label on the bottle and Mobil 1 website the Mobil 1 AFE (Advanced Fuel Economy) is rated API SN PLUS. Am I wrong about this. As an aside the Walmart website says the AFE Mobil 1 is not for the Hyundai 2.5, but the ESP is. Here are the AFE specs.

Big difference in price on Amazon. Same price at Walmart.

Do Mobil™ motor oils meet GF-6 standards?
Yes, our Mobil 1™, Mobil Super™, and Mobil™ Full Synthetic motor oils meet and exceed ILSAC GF-6 specifications.

Mobil 1 also meets the following Specs:
API SN PLUS
API SN PLUS RESOURCE CONSERVING

I am sure there are other brand oils that meet the required Specs but Mobil 1 is readily available.
My dealership uses Semi-synthetic and not Pure synthetic for which there is an upcharge.
I think this thread has been fully answered, and starting like always to go off topic.
As the OP I think this thread should be closed. it is starting to as they say "Going into the Weeds".
