Trailer Hitch Wiring

Bought my Tucson in late November and installed a Curt #13240 Class 3 hitch in January. Last weekend I installed the Curt wiring harness 56277. Had a few problems with the installation and hope this helps anyone who does the same installation. After looking on YouTube at a 2014 Tucson, a 2015 Tucson, and a 2016 Sportage which are similar but do not use the same harness I was ready to start. Now, like the 2014 installation, this wiring harness is to be run all on the outside of the car. That is not what I wanted. I live in a northern climate with lots of snow, ice, and salt, so I wanted to run the wires and the controller box inside the car. This means you have to splice extra wire on to the existing wire to make it reach. You cannot reach the inside of the car from the taillights. The wires run down from the lights in a gap in the sheet metal. To get to the inside of the car you must remove the plastic panel behind the rear wheel and remove a grommet, Then the wire can be fished inside to the spare tire compartment. You might notice in one of the pics, the plywood with the 4x4, I carry a couple of water jugs often and it helps support the weight.
