went with a pioneer backup camera connected to a Pioneer Double Din AVH-X5600BHS
500% improvement in sound over the stock unit.

Not the easiest project to tackle but well worth it….

Pioneer/Alpine is all I install in any of my vehicles.

Just a quick note. My 07 Santa Fe gls does not have a blue wire in the red connector behind the ESC panel/over the fuse box on the drivers side. Nothing connected to pin 4. I have been hitting every blue wire I see under the dash and so far they are all hot, in reverse or park. I really don't want to run a reverse power from the back to the front like I had initially done my installation. I read all of your notes Santa and various other folks notes, including the passenger kick panel approach. However, I mangled up my red wire, so I ordered 50 more feet today from Amazon, hanging head in shame.

I am disabled and I cannot get on my knees or even sit on a surface without 22 inches for me to stand under it. I took out the glove compartment, and I see a huge bundle of wires from the harness, but I cannot find a junction box that was talked about.

If i purchased a thing ma jig, I don't even know the name of the part that goes into the 16 pin red socket on top of the fuse box on the drivers side. But in theory, if I could salvage a wire someplace from an auto shop trash can or something. Would it be reverse power if I inserted it into the red socket and plugged it into the receiving end?

And, why don't I have a blue wire in that socket? Seems like everyone agreed my model year more or less would have one in pin hole 4. I found the numbers 1 to 8 and 9 to 16 on the beige receiver side of the socket and tried testing it with a probe, with no luck, but its a kinda odd path it gives wires in there so I am not sure the probe made it in. I tried the blue wires I could see on the other two sockets to the right of the red socket, with no luck either.

Morning,

I plan on installing a rearview camera today but don't have access to the wiring diagram. Can anyone tell me what color the wire is in the back tailight so I can connect the camera to "reverse" so it turns on when I put the car in reverse?

Even better is there a spot closer upfront that I can connect the wire to?
on the driver side kick panel I found mine its a brown wire in the main Harness hope this works for you

Camera cuts out when braking

I installed an aftermarket Android unit and everything works fine - except the backup camera. I took the 12v power for the camera from the backup light at the bulb and I took the 12v reverse signal from the red connector (pin 2) located underneath the passenger side kick panel.

PROBLEM: the camera works great when I put the car in reverse, but the instant I hit the brakes, the picture cuts out. It comes right back when I let up off the brakes. Perhaps I connected to the wrong blue wire? I guess I'll have to fish it back over to the other side and try to pull the 12v reverse signal from underneath the fuse panel.

Would it work the same if I just tapped into the 12v power right at the point where I'm drawing the camera's power? It seems easier to run the 12v reverse signal wire to the back than contorting myself under the dash.

Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

The display is an in-dash unit (Ouku or something...Chinese of course) and the camera is located just above the license plate.

Just as an experiment, I ran the reverse signal wire to the back and tapped into the blue wire for the reverse light and got the same result - when I stepped on the brake, the picture cut out.

I haven't tried tapping into the connectors behind the fuse panel on the driver's side yet. Are the wires for the rear view mirror located there?

Mirror "reverse" is under dash at I/P junction box (blue wire) as others have described. PIA to access for the most part unless you're a contortionist. If you've hit the right wire, there is NO reason that applying brakes should be shutting down the signal. For an automatic, the signal comes right off the transaxle range switch on top of the tranny .. nothing to do with brake circuit.

I'm wondering if the wiring harness is labeled incorrectly. There is a tag on the wire that says "Reverse" - seems pretty straightforward to me and that's what I'm connecting to. Now, if that was labeled incorrectly by someone in...oh, I dunno...CHINA...

I agree that the brakes shouldn't even come into play here.

Recap:
1. Camera was placed above license plate, ran wires under cowling that contains license plate lights.
2. Connected the camera's red power wire to the blue/gray wire of the reverse light and the camera's black ground wire to the black wire of the reverse light.
3. Plugged the camera's RCA connector into the back of the in-dash unit's (Ouku) CAMERA jack.
4. Connected to Ouku's harness wire tagged "Reverse" and then ran that connection to passenger side kick panel and tapped into the red connector at pin 2 (blue wire).
5. When car is placed into reverse, the camera activates properly. When I step on the brake the picture disappears until I take my foot off the brake and then the camera image returns. This does NOT happen when I use the emergency brake rather than the foot brake.

Dont cut the wrong wire!

Sorry for the long thread....

I think I found the junction box (molex connectors) but I am unsure which one is Pin 4 of I/P-B and Pin 14 of I/P-N. I understand what Pin means but what does "I/PB AND P/P-N" refernce. I attached a PIC of the junction box.

I see a white on, a blue one, brown one, and green one. (All have blue wires). Which Molex is I/PB and I/PN?
Just came across this article regarding locating the Blue wire. Some Hyundai vehicles DO NOT have the blue wire on the RED plug in behind the switch panel above the fuse panel BUT the 4th pin from the bottom left which has no wire in it DOES activate when reverse is selected. So all I did was strip a 3mm wire about 8mm and slide it into the plug so it contacts the terminal then connect it to your revers camera activation wire.

Got it

IGNORE ALL MY OTHER POSTS REGARDING THIS MATTER I WAS ALL WRONG.

How To Tap Into Reverse Light For Backup Camera
1) Disconnect battery
2) Remove fuse panel cover
3) Remove Fog-ESC-AWD switch panel (push out from behind)
4) Remove Red Connector
5) Remove Electric tape from the Red Connector wiring
6) Tap into BLUE wire with wire tap connector
ie. Posi-Tap- No Crimp Tap
7) Done

See PIC For Reference*

FYI: I went with a pioneer backup camera connected to a Pioneer Double Din AVH-X5600BHS
500% improvement in sound over the stock unit.

p.s. IP B means Instrument Panel Socket B Instrument Panel is located above the fuse panel.
And if there is NO blue wire on the RED plug (only cars with auto dipping mirrors seem to have it) Strip a wire about 8mm and insert it into the red plug in the left hand row 4th from the bottom That is the pin to activate the reversing sensor. and replace the plug

100% correct and a lifesaver for me- thanks very much!

Hi, I am trying to install a new radio with a rear view camera. I identified the reverse light but each side has 4 wires coming into the plug. So I tested the driver side plug with a multimeter while in reverse. The purple wire with black stripe is the power (+)

Either the black wire or the green wire with black stripe is the ground (-)

I just put in a dash can on a 2010 Hyundai Elantra and tapped into the wiring at tail lamp. The wire is orange and will be the hot wire, not blue as there were no blues at the rear of car. Works perfect!!!
