I don't think I have it enabled to take over but you can set it so that it only warns you instead of taking over in the user settings

Probably not the answer you are looking for but at least you can turn it off.

Sounds like a LKA Lane Keep Assist issue as well. Sometimes when I am passing through intersections or the lane lines are not good on the road my steering wheel will start tugging left or right.

 

LKA has the ability to steer slightly to keep you in the lane, when over 40mph. That doesn't sound at all like what the OP is describing. Actually, none of the safety systems that come with the car sound like what the OP is describing.

 

Julie, it sounds like you have the lane-keeping assist turned on. Is your car new? Didn’t they mention it at the dealer?

Not LKA issue because OP was below the the operating speed range of LKA. Are u saying the steering wheel turned ccw? How much ccw? You could not over come the system?

 

Nope. It turned all the way to the left. I could only move the wheel after shutting the car off and restarting it.

 

Sorry, I got a bit confused. You were turning left then the steering wheel turned counter clockwise? Does that mean it turned the wheel even more to the left? The active LKA should steer you back to your lane instead of steering you away even more.
Also, I don't think the BCA system does any steering correction but "It gently applies braking power on the tire, which is located in the opposite side of the possibly-colliding point" (as per user manual).

 

LKA doesn't guide the car back into the lane (1) under 40 mph or (2) if your turn signal is on (making assumption--didn't see OP say if that was so)

 

A key word the OP used was the roads were icy, this is in thread 10.

It would be interesting to know the year of the vehicle, the condition of the tires, If it is an AWD or FWD, and if there was any snow/ice buildup on the radar sensors or cameras. Also it would be important to know if traction control was turned on or off.

I am glad the OP is okay and was able to avoid any damage to themselves or the vehicle!

 

I think the OP mentioned it was 2019. If the road is icy, any sudden press (especially hard ones) on the gas while turning will induce a slide.

 

On page 5-93 in my 2020 Santa Fe Owners Manual There is a whole chapter on the Lane Keep Assist option and how to use it. Our Salesman helped us set it up on our 2020 Santa Fe before we left the lot. Are you sure about your statement that the Santa Fe doesn't have lane keep assist?

No--I meant that SFs haven't had this available going back 12 years. In 2007, that would have been a feature only in higher end lux cars. 2019s definitely have LKA.

 

So far, whenever Active LKA or collision avoidance systems have taken control, I have always been able to override them with my commands. I have had the collision warning pop up a few times where is beeps, displays the car symbol in the HUD, and gauges turn red. I guess I am an aggressive driver hehe ...Anyway I've always been able to turn the wheel, accelerate, etc.when the systems attempt to take over.

Yeah it was really weird and after the wheel turned itself, it locked in place. I’m eager to hear what the issue is. One of my clients had the same thing malfunction on his 2019 and the car caused a multi car accident and he broke his collarbone and 3 ribs.
