Fumoto valve installed

I did the first oil change tonight on my '17 Sport, and I installed a Fumoto F106SX valve. A little challenging, but future oil changes will be a lot easier.

A 21mm socket is needed for the valve, and a pretty wide adjustable wrench to hold the valve still while turning the bolt. The valve I installed is a newer 2-piece design. The valve spec's a torque value of 18 ft. lbs (221 in lbs), which is a good bit lower than the torque value for the factory drain plug, so a torque wrench is helpful.

Now that it's installed - remove blue plastic clip, press metal lever and slide to rear, and oil comes out the front-facing brass outlet. Easy peasy.

I have the same valve on my Accent but haven't gotten to the second oil change yet.

The nipple versions are even better----------------- attach hose and drain directly to a 5 qt. jug. No pan, no mess.
They don't make the nipple version for the newer SX series valve, but they sell a snap-on plastic adapter that fits in the hose and lets you snap the hose onto the valve.

It definitely makes OC's quicker. I also have a metal oil filter cup that's an exact match, so spinning those off & on is very simple. I am a bit disappointed that the LF has a panel with 7 screws that need to be removed before you can get to everything, because that slows things down a bit. The YF was better for access.

Often the metal oil filter cups only work with one filter. So if you always use the OEM filter, you are fine, but if you use a Fram or Purolator or Wix filter designed for the car, the cup filter might not fit it.

Not sure if the panel is required. My Accent doesn't have one. My son's Focus (2012) does, but if it were MY Focus, I would likely remove it - might hurt aerodynamics and fuel economy slightly, but I don't think it would hurt anything else.

Yeah, the one on my 2012 (I think it's just an F106) doesn't have the clip, and I can see needing the blue clip either. To release the valve, you have to press the spring, and move the lever 90 degrees. I don't see that thing moving unintentionally.
I love these valves. Yeah,if the lever moves, you have probably hit something in a bad way. Was it tough to get your oil filter off. When I did first oil change on the 2015,I think the Incredible Hulk put it on as it was super tight. The correct cup filter wrench would spin with minimal force.

Everything was gorilla-tight on mine for the first oil change. The drain plug came off with a 18-inch breaker bar. For the filter, I usually use a metal strap wrench - https://www.amazon.com/Automotive-Small-Standard-Filter-Wrench/dp/B00VAZMARU/?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1# - That would just slide, so I put a couple of strips of cut up corrugated cardboard boxes between the wrench and the filter and that did the trick.

Lol,wow......:surprise:

I did something similar with a strap wrench using a rag instead of the card board you used. Was still difficult. So much so,that I had to double check to make sure the filter housing was not turning.Gladly,it did not.
