ETACS Door / Key Chime

Hey there!

I've got a european Santa Fe 2007 2.2 CRDI 4WD.
According to the shop manual the ETACS should trigger the chime when the key is in the lock or the doors are open.
This feature doesn't work on the European models. I found a lot of threads about disabling it, but i didn't find one to enable it.
People in the "disable it" thread suggested to remove the speaker, but it isn't removed. So the feature has to be disabled in a other way.
Does someone know anything about it?

Thanks!

I think on US models the chime sounds if the key is in the ignition and the driver's door is open/ajar. Removing the key from the ignition lock or closing the door switches the chime off.

I don't think you could easily make a EU model work like that because I don't think ours have the switch at the bottom of the ignition lock barrel that senses when the key is in the lock. On our models the chime sounds if you open the driver's door with the parking lights left on. On some models it also sounds if the rear fog lamps switch in on but the headlamps are off, to remind you to turn the fog lamps off, which is quite a good idea.

Why would you want the chime to work like a US car? That chime going all the time is a real pain for us techs that need to work on cars with the door open. And the wind howling around the edge of the door should be enough to tell any sensible driver that the door is ajar, not to mention the warning light on the instrument cluster.

Hi Scottie!

My Model has got a switch in the lock, if you insert the key it will turn on the light around the ignition lock, so there has to be a switch. Maybe there is just a software option on the ETACS?

I want to enable the chime for the ignition lock. I've measured the current going from the battery to the wires, and there are some amps when you just plug in the key, maybe some control unit. However, there is definitly a switch in the lock. Does someone have the european service manual? Is there something about the ETACS with the chime in there? I've got my service manual from canada, according to it, the chime has to work, and there is no way in the manual to enable / disable it.

Thanks!

In that case my guess is EU models must use a different body control module to models sold in the US. So basically your right, the wiring is all there just not the software in the processor to turn the chime on.
