EPS Electronic power steering warning light.

Had my I20 13 days now (180 miles on the clock).
Last night EPS light came on and all power assistance to steering was lost.

Pretty scary!!!

I was able to stop after a half mile or so. Stop / started the engine and all was well.

Car booked into the dealer for Saturday. Hopefully they can find some diagnostic’s and fix

Just thought I’d share. Hopefully, this will not become a common theme.

Garage had the car for one hour last Saturday.
They found a couple of fault codes but had to send them to Hyundai.
Garage was meant to call me Monday to let me know the next step.
I waited till Tuesday lunch time and called them.
They need the car back for more tests. So it goes in tomorrow (20/10/09)

Ok garage the garage had the car all day Tuesday and they found the problem.
Apparently, a fault in the wiring loop causing it to short on the steering column.
Anyway they said it’s all sorted and I must admit the steering does seem better.
Let’s hope that’s the last of it.

Hello to all!

So, it was the last or not? Hope yes

John Corrigan (JC) and Mr Pogle,
Are you sure it was "a fault in the wiring loop causing it to short on the steering column" ? We are dealing with this problem too.

Hi,

I have a i20, magna petrol. now run around 1200 kms.
I too have similar problem with power steering.

Say, if I stop the engine in traffic signal for around 2 minutes or so, then after restarting engine, the steering will be hard for some time. At least around 5 or 6 seconds.

I complained to Hyundai dealer, and in their service center we couldn't reproduce this.
Then again in road, this was recurring. So, I asked them to accompany me in my car for a test drive,
I reproduced the same, and they agreed that these is something wrong. This is not always happening, but happens most of the times.

The solution they offered is : they will replace the steering unit. He told me that they will replace full set.
waiting for this to happen.

EPS Problem

Hi there! i encountered the same problem. I brought my i10 to Hyundai garage for change oil and general check up around 8:30 a.m.. In the afternoon, i was informed the process is not yet done so I returned the next day. I noticed that the steering wheel trembles every first turn but normalize after after a few seconds. The following day, EPS light turned on and I could hardly turn the steering wheel. I had to stop in the middle of the road and turned off the power. I turned it on after a few seconds and the EPS turned off but it still trembles when i turn the wheel either way. I brought the vehicle back to the garage for diagnostic. They said the EPS needs to be replaced. I was advised to wait for the warranty approval and availability of needed part. I retrieved the car the next day and the problem has worsen. EPS turns on every slight turn. Now, 10 days has passed and i am still waiting for the warranty approval or availability of parts. I am trying hard to suppress my disappointment and hoping that this will be remedied immediately.

Hi

I am from India and faced issue of Steering being heavy and very difficult to drive my EON. have taken the car to Hyundai service center and the technician have confirmed for the cable and motor has ceased and will need to be replaced. The explanation is, if the steering is turned to maximum limit of the vehicle it puts additional load on motor and cable and thus gets heated.

I have no choice but to have this replaced and the cost of replacement is approx. 26K INR (~ USD 450). I want to understand for the vehicle is designed to turn on its maximum radius and if it is correct, why should the motor and cable get overheated and needs replacement ?

What is the permissible range of the products associated with the failure and the tolerance levels and is the explanation right given to me by technician ?

Hi, even i am facing a similar problem with my EON.When i start the engine the eps light indicator is on for like a few seconds and the steering is normal but after a while the light again gets on and the steering gets super heavy. Is there any alternate solution for the same.? Can it be some wiring default ? replacing the complete unit for 26K is pretty expensive :/ also the vehicle can be driven with a power steering failure as well ?
