2007 Sonata Fog Light - Wire is Cut

I have a 2007 Sonata that I purchased in December. The driver's side fog light was not working when I purchased it. I figured it was just a bulb. Anyway, I went to replace it the other day and I found out the wire to the bulb was chewed/cut about 8 inches from the bulb. I had the car in the dealer and they said it would be $850 for a new harness and $150 for labor. This seems outrageous. Can't I just tape the wires together (where it was cut) or wire it directly to the passenger fog light. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Find another dealer, pronto!

Yes, it's possible to repair the wire; it's an easy job. An ordinary mechanic should be able to repair the wire no problem; no need to go to the stealer. And this dealer is a thief!

Don't wire both fogs to the same circuit; I don't know if they each have a separate fuse but it doesn't hurt to be cautious.

Ouch!

Wow, that is a big ouch! A simple butt connector should do the job if both wire ends are available. A more secure solution would include soldering the connection and using heat shrink to seal the repair. Remember to put the heat shrink on before soldering! Hmmm, how do I know this…

Again, this all depends if the wires are available and accessible. Also follow Dennis's suggestions as needed to accomplish the repair.

My keyless entry system probably has a cut wire in it. I bought the 09 sonata used. Every time I put a fuse in the slot it pops so I am thinking the previous owner disabled the alarm system in a messed up way. Everything on that fuse is out so I have no roof lights or clock or door lights or glove box light. I am locating the alarm system control box to see what is up.
