I folks, I'm a newbie. As such, I'm sure this has come up before so apologies in advance. It's a 2019 Santa Fe SE 2.4L AWD and we've set it up for towing a small travel trailer. As you know, the owner's manual very explicitly says that, with electric brakes on your trailer, your gross towing capacity is 2000lbs. "with Standard Package" and 2700lbs. "with Trailer Package", a notable difference in capacity. Our car was bought off the lot, no "trailer package". I purchased and installed the necessary wiring and a Curt hitch and we've been towing a small pop-up for two seasons. Our upgraded travel trailer is on the build and it will be close to the 2000lb. mark when towing so I've been asking my dealer, other dealers, and Hyundai corporate to tell me what is in the mysterious "trailer package", but no-one appears to know or be willing to tell. I would gladly find an appropriate transmission cooler and spring "helper" package to protect the vehicle from the rigors of towing if I knew what's in that elusive "trailer package".
The specific that I'm asking about is: Do all the Santa Fe's have the small transmission warmer/cooler mounted on the transmission body? Is that unit in addition to a standard radiator based cooling circuit? Given the issues that Hyundai has had with their new 8speed tranny, I can understand why temperature regulation might be highly specific for the unit and they don't want anyone messing around with aftermarket transmission coolers. However, I find it odd that the capacity specs in the owner's manual are a mystery to Hyundai representatives.
