I just wanna know why most US Hyundais do not have immobilizers

Does the Hyundai alarm have a starter kill swith because a alarm wont do much without it ?

I am just curious on how the Hyundai Theft deterent System works

Thank you

its pretty much a starter motor disableing system when its armed, the engine won't crank over when the alarm is going off. The system fitted to Hyundais outside of the US is the chipped kay, where a properly coded key is needed to make the car start, the only US car with this feature is currently the Azera.

While the Sonata will start with the Alarm engaged, (they ask you not to try this), the true genius of the North American configuration is the continuous blinking of the alarm LED!. No crook in his right mind would imagine the Sonata is that easy to steal :w00t:

Thanks for the clarification; the tech manual runs its mouth about the immobilizer but this confirms our non-existant immobilizer.

I've ordered The Car Defender. It's an ECU-kill device. You simply locate a fuse that says "ECU" (engine control unit, aka black box, the computer) and wire the Car Defender into that circuit.

Hold the key fob in the secret location 'till you hear the chirp then you have 3 sec to start the car. If you don't have the fob the engine cranks but will not start, hot-wired, cracked column, whatever.

Call me stupid - why not use a simple switch(wiring the switch to interupt the ignition) that you can activate when you think it might be a risky area or just flip it on all the time. Since you can hide it in a lot of different areas the thief will not even know its there and willl not spend 5 minutes looking for it while the alarm is going of.......
just my 2 cents....

its basically a real fancy relay that when armed breaks the power connection to the cars computer or fuel pump, depending on how its hooked up. The coded key fob is what powers the relay up to allow engine starting. Personally I'm more worried about things being taken from my truck rather than the truck being stolen, so I don't have much use for that, though it does seem like a good idea.

Thank you, i did a test myself with the alarm and when the alarm is making noise the car will not even start with my key in the ignition, but my car is a hyundai, espically in my area hyundai's are not that popular on the Black market so i have much less to worry about , the guy who drives a silverado was right.

Can't...

I don't what to say, mine started. I will say however I bought the ultimate in Hyundai protection. A Garage at my new Apartment for $25 a month. It gets 125 degrees during the summer here!. Now I am fully protected! :amen:

It's interesting that the Sonata does not have an immobilizer in the US. All Canadian models (in fact all 2008 cars sold in Canada) must have an immobilizer factory installed or they can not be licensed.

My '08 Sonata has the "chipped key" immobilizer and a full out theft alarm system. The GL model in Canada is pretty much the base unit. Mine had quite a few options but they all have these security features.

thats cool. im too lazy to go check to see if mine starts or not. but it reminds me of the one day i was at a Hess gettin gas. well the person on the other side of the pump opened her car door thru the window, and the alarm went off. and she kept tryin to start the car. i wanted to tell her to use the key fob, or wait til the alarm shut off, if Mazda RX8's do turn off. but then i was like, well, its dark, and she might think im tryin to kill her, so i left. prolly shoulda helped, idk. anywho, im done ranting, lol :eek:fftopic:
