If I don't want to subscribe to blue Link what will my vehicle lose? Will my phone still sync, my address book, will it read txts to me? I don't own the Santa Fe yet I am looking at purchasing within the month. I want to make sure that the vehicle will do everything I want it to do without Blue Link. Could someone give me a list (Tech wise) what may new Santa Fe will do. Also I have been looking at the new Escape, I really like the My Ford Touch and Sync, but have read there are still loads of issues with both the car and the tech. The thing I like about the ford system is that it will let you use your smart phone to connect to the internet, does the Santa Fe do that? Any info that you can give me on the Tech side of the house would be great! Thanks Guys! Datoney:)

life without Bluelink

after the free subscription, you will no longer have: remote start, remote locking/unlocking, car locator, monthly car diagnostic report, voice text messaging etc. BTW you can only send text messages to a predetermined list of friends. It will not read incoming messages. XM radio and traffic are also subscriptions in the US.

That said, your phone, phone book synch, bluetooth will be unaffected. They are not part of Bluelink. Neither is the mp3 player. If you have an iPod or iPhone or flash drive music with the tech/nav package you can play songs, playlists see album covers etc. Not sure about the standard radio package. Maybe someone else can chime in?

What if I let Bluelink expire and then need remote unlock or remote start in an emergency situation? For example, let's say I lost my key on the ski slopes and I'm up a ski resort 3 hours from my house; or, I accidentally leave my key in the car and lock it. It sure would be nice to be able to remotely unlock and start the car so I can drive home and get my spare key and not be stuck at the resort.

How often does that happen? In 56 years of driving, it happened once to me. I locked my keys in the car. I was able to unlock it with a coat hanger. After that, I invested about $5 (much cheaper than Blue Link) in a hide a key box I hid under a fender. Never got to use it.

That said, I don't think you can lock the 2013 Sport with the key fob in the car.

Correct. Once you open the door the vehicle expects to see a transmitter. If it does not see it within a certain period of time....Maybe 15 seconds or so if memory serves, the engine will turn off. I had that happen a time or two while I was clearing snow off of the vehicle during the winter months. Opened door, retrieved snow brush without getting into vehicle and engine turned off shortly thereafter. I believe it may also turn off as soon as you step on the brake if no key is present.

Yeah, but what about my oh crap moment? One day I got in the car fob in pocket, started the car backed out of the garage...oops forgot my wallet, left car running (winter) and bolted inside the house looking for wallet. After going thru pants while looking for my wallet I now had the FOB in hand. Set FOB down on kitchen counter, found wallet, bolted back to car (late) drove to meet the guys at McD's. Shut the car off, locked the door using switch on door. Didn't think twice about it. Had a nice time with the guys BUT... NO FOB!!! I'm locked out. Guys drove me home to get fob on counter and then back to Mc D's parking lot to open car, start engine and drive home. I swear it happened. ????
