My first oil change I did on my car was with AMS Oil Full Synthetic. After that I change it every 6000 Miles with Royal Purple 5W30 oil. Have yet to have a problem. Have over 37,000 miles on the car too. Every other oil change I also use the Lucas Fully Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. (The one in the black Lucas Bottle). However on the new Elantra I just bought I have a deal with the dealer to do the first 4 oil changes for free. But after that I am going with a full synthetic.

I`m actually going to change mine at 2000km ( just for first oil change ) i don't want that slop running around in the engine from braking it in, anymore than i have too.

 

OK, heres what I know about oil.
If using synthetic, you can go 7500-10000 miles between changes easily.
If using conventional you can easily go 5000 miles between changes.
Most synthetics are a group III base oil synthetic. Which is just a very highly refined and hydrocracked mineral oil. Such as Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Valvoline Synpower, and a host of other brand names. A group IV synthetic is the real deal, such as amsoil. You can carry out a group IV oil change far past 10000 miles.
If you change your oil out at around 5000 miles just stick to conventional. Otherwise your wasting your money.
OK heres what I use. Valvoline Synpower in a 5w30 weight and a purolator Premium Plus oil filter. I take it about 6000 miles between changes.

I saw in the manual where Hyundai recommends Quaker State. I used to use it a long time ago...

I've had mine changed at 3 different dealers... The dealer I bought it from uses Valvoline 5W20, another dealer who also sells Chryslers puts Mopar 5W30 oil in there (whoever makes that) and the last dealer I went to uses Valvoline 5W30.

I've always been partial to Pennzoil for dino juice and supply the dealers with that. This last time though, I just let them put in whatever and didn't bother bringing in my own (that's the dealer that uses Valvoline 5W30.) Haven't noticed any significant change in FE on the 5W30 thus far, guess it works good enough.

I could run synthetic, but no matter how good you tell me the oil will hold up, I'm still skittish about really long change intervals. So, if I'm going to be changing oil every 5-6K on Synthetic like I know I would, I'll just stick with 3K dino juice changes.

OK I can do one of two things here.

1. Type a few very large reasons to go synthetic, the differances between oils, information about extended drain intervals, Why you can go up tp 40,000miles on a single oil change. etc. etc

2. Or I can just put up a link that will for ever answer any lubrication question you might have.

Bah, Pennzoil IMO has gotta be the worst oil. Talk about crap. If you don't wanna shell out the bucks for Synthetic, at least stick with Castrol or Quaker.

 

I use Q horsepower, 5W30 Full synthetic

 

i just took mine in today for an oil change...before i would do it myself, i used castrol gtx along with "fram" filter...until now....i used that combo on my sonoma i had before my accent...i'd rather be safe then sorry...

 

I will not use fram again after reading several test on oil filters.
Not highly ranked in at all .I changed to wix a few years back when i could find them .

 

There is nothing inside a Fram. I would never use them.

 

Valvoline 5w-20 for now------Mobil 1 after I get around 20K on the car---



Fram is junk---even Walmart filters are better.

 

So does everyone recommend going Synthetic on my next change?
It will be my second one at 6000miles.

 

I use Castrol in ALL my vehicles. Always have. OEM filters.

amsoil, change interval 12.5k kms. i've read that royal purple full synth has posted slightly better numbers for high power cars etc... but who're we kidding? the accent is not a race car, so, for the reason listed in my sig - i'll be sticking to amsoil oil & filters. 8)

 

12,500 Km is to XL series of oil from Amsoil. That's the shortest change interval, if you go with the Signature Series you can get up to 56,000km or you can really go crazy and get the By-Pass filters and go until oil testing tells you to change it.

Remember that article is written by Amsoil so the results are going to be biased to their product.

 

If you read it you would see all the testing is done 3rd party. While can't people just accept that Amsoil is "The first in Synthetics" Have been for 35 years. Find me a test from another party that shows meotherwise, That was done 3rd party and not with their own people.

 

"First" doesn't make "BEST".

 

Here's an interesting fact and letter from the CEO on that pantent for that phrase.

AMSOIL is "The First in Synthetics" and also the first in quality, protection and performance. Every other oil company in the world was given the chance to object when AMSOIL applied for trademark rights to "The First in Synthetics", yet after 90 days of waiting, not a single one objected!

Again, that is biased OPINION, not fact. The only people that claim Amsoil is the best are the people making money from selling it. That is a "conflict of interests".

Does that mean Amsoil is not good? No, Amsoil is a very good oil. But that doesn't make it the BEST.
