USB FLash Drive Size

I know and have looked thru several threads on this subject, but most are fairly old and wanted to get the lastest updates from those using the larger Flash Drives in their USB ports. I'm specifically looking for input on those that have tried using the 64GB Cruizer drive in a 2013 year Sonata with the Nav system. I can get the 32GB size to work, but even when I format the 64GB drive using what seems for others to have worked the FAT32 formatting program "MiniAide Fat32 Formatter - Home Edition 1.05) my unit is not recognizing any files beyond the initial 32GB on the drive. I understand some years the 64GB drives might not work and also there might be differences between the Standard Dimensions system and the one on the vehicles with the Nav Option, but I thought the 64GB drive would work on a 2013 Nav system unit.

Can anyone with a 2013 vehicle comment on using a 64GB drive specifically the ScanDisk Cruizer type?

Thanks,

Larry

Not with the 3rd party formatter that I specifically mentioned in my O.P. It gets around the normal 32gb limit and has been specifically mentioned in previous threads on this subject as working in our sound systems.

Thanks, and I remember that 64gb drives have worked in some years and models and your information is good, however could you add what type of 64gb drive you are using since that may or may not be a factor along with what you formatted the drive to and with what software. Also, if available/known what the sector size was ,,, in fact if others care to respond maybe they could provide the following:

Vehicle year/model:
Sound system: note Dimension and Infinity are the only two I know of
Drive make/type and size:
Format of drive:
Sector size of format:
Software used to format the drive:

I think that covers all the important information

Drive format...

More than likely your music is in MP3 format. You can load the heck out a flash drive with MP3's. They take up very little space and are great for getting a huge amount of music onto a CD or flash drive.

Ola Larry. I have been trying to pry this info for my specific build (2013, LTD No Nav) out of Hyundai for a while, now.

The one ADATA UV128/128GB USB 3.0 that I tried yielded completely unreliable results ("Connection Error" “…Not Recognized"...). It could have been so many things.

http://www.hyundai-forums.com/yf-20...-i45/270690-dimensions-audio-usb-drive-max-size-leave-plugged-320-v-190kbs.html

I have been using a Corsiar Voyager-GO 32GB v3.0 pretty successfully on "Random Shuffle". While it's hard to say for certain, it may not be looking at all of the files for each "Random" shuffle, but does seem to eventually get around to it all.

So far, Hyundai Central Command (800-633-5151) has only responded with "The maximum capacity is 32GB", and to "RTM".

Reports in the above thread, and elsewhere indicate that at least in some circumstances, fellow Sonatistas are successfully regularly using 64GB drives. Pool Float reported a success in a quick test of a 128GB in the above thread.

So, success in this tuneful endeavor may really be detail related.

I am going to try calling the boys and girls in Alabama, next; a call on which N. Young is not invited in on... :grin2:

THANK YOU ....

I'm just trying to see if this can be sorted out with some specificity and was hoping for some info that might save me some time. So far in my experimenting it looks like even the number of folders might have a limit since with both my 32GB and 64GB drives loaded with the same files my unit is only seeing 7 of the 12 or so I have on it and those only total around 15GB. It's just formatting the 64GB drive takes some time and a REALLY LONG time to load say 40GB of data on it so testing is REALLY SLOW.

I'm also not a Software wizard and what I should be trying is sort of hit and miss and probably is not the most efficient in trying to determine what the limitations are.

A quick update. After trying to get more detailed answers to this question (beyond the "maximum is 32GB", RTM), HCS, while very nice, seemed to have no where else to turn to, and advised me to call HMMQ. So far that has been unsuccessful. I will try again.

Like you say, there are so many variables just on the storage end, let alone for the head units, and what software/firmware each is running.

If we could figure out who makes the things, maybe we could contact them directly. That has been on my list of questions, since this started. "Autonet" was mentioned by HCS last month, but I haven't had any luck with that.

Until then, detailed field reports from 64GB and higher users would be most appreciated, so that maybe we can distill the requirements for success.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP .... My sense is your assessment of just how complicated this might be is spot on and one reason I resurrected this topic. It seems based on past threads that even between years there are subtle differences in what works or doesn't. I was hoping like you said to get some insight from others that have stumbled on something that worked in the hopes we might get so sort of play by play so to speak to see what works and what doesn't. I got a 32 and 64GB scan disk Cruizer flash drive that I'm trying varying formats and files on putting they exact same things on each an seeing if I can see any trends or hints on how at least the Nav unit system on my 2013 treats them. I'm using a base system of like 16 folders with about 40gb of music files on them of varying sizes.

It would seem that I messed up and did not format my drive properly. I just tried it in my brother's Fusion, which couldn't read it either. When I brought it back in the house, I saw it was in fact NTFS and not FAT32. Formatted it again as FAT32 w/ 2k cluster size, and the Dimension radio read it fine!

Here is the one I ordered: [ame]http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Turbo-128GB-Flash-Drive/dp/B00FE2N1WS[/ame]

Thanks for the update, PoolFloat! Which audio system do you have? Also, when you get a chance, it would be great if you would you give an approximation on the file structure on the 128 (total number of folders, depth of sub-folders, if any, total number of files...), and, if you have tried fully Random play - do you think it reading/playing from all of the folders/files, or is limited in anyway?

Thanks, very much PoolFloat!

Revive alert. :surprise:

I have a sonata 2015 with nav.
Have been messing with usb's for a few days now, formatted to fat32 2000 clusters.
I do use a a 64gb usb 2.0 cruzer with roughly 45gb of mp3s all in artist-album folders.

The car stereo does see all of the folders in the list view and i can select and play whatever i like. But when i press the random button it then limits the amount of folders it will use.

Example
Press random and it will only play artist folders from A to D
