I have used one and it makes the Tuc run smoothly and pull much better and all that with a mpg increase too.
Have a look at my attachment it really says it all.

you know of course, that automatically voids your warranty, right? any messing with the ECU pretty much guaratees them denying any warranty claim.. have found that out from the Sonata forums...

 

I've considered 'chipping' my 2005 (111BHP) diesil Tucson, in particular for towing my caravan. Now all the 'info' for the various makes state that it will not damage the engine - but does that also apply when towing, because the engine is under extreme load. Also are the bhp and torque increases also present under these loads? I have not read anything about these devices when under load and it concerns me.

And a final thougth - in life we are told; you don't get something for nothing -so where does the extra power and torque come from? (esp when we could also expect a little more mpg when 'chipped')

Thanks for the warning but the electronic chipper does not have to go into the |ECM as its an addon that gets fixed between the ECM and the rail on the diesels and what it does is change the signals and its not noticed by the hyundai black box.
All of us using the CR powerbox or Tunex offering take the unit off before taking it in for servicing so nobodys any the wiser..

I've just installed the "Powerbox CRD2" in my 2005 Tucson CRTD (with the Hyundai MPG upgrade). Acceleration is a lot smoother with more power lower-down in the rev range. Haven't ran it long enough to note any MPG difference yet. Very impressed!

I've been toying with the idea of getting a chip box for my tucson but I've just been reading about a guys problems with his alhambra after fitting a chip so I'll wait a bit. See the link below for info on the alhambra

Don't worry mate the Alhambra is a VW engined and its a different type of diesel engine -We have the best one a Common Rail Diesel.

Come round and try my chipped version you may find you like it

Oh and I have changed my Grill !!

 

I've been running almost three years using a German unit , the AMH Booster 2, which I believe has now been updated to a slightly neater unit.
As some of the other units, it sits between the ECU and the common rail injector so has no detrimental effects on the management system. It certainly gives an increase in power and torque throughout the range and surprisingly give an additional 2-3 mpg.
As Geoff says, the idea is that it can be removed prior to service so there are no warranty issues.
At about £80 at the time I bought it, it has been money very well spent. Also with the option of being transferred to any other common rail diesel with the use of the appropriate vehicle specific wiring harness available from the company.
