As of 2013, all Hyundai engines have a chain. The last straggler in 2012 with the snap-n-kill belt was the ol' Beta in the Elantra Touring.
The 2016+ Tucson uses the 2.0L Nu engine and 1.6L Gamma engine. Both have a timing chain.

Timing chains can have their own problems and be more costly to fix when they do have issues. But generally you'll audibly hear the issues and have time to address it, unlike a belt that'll just snap one day if you go past the replacement interval.

Me too...I'm looking at 2013 Hyundai Accent with 65000 miles for my GF...If it had a belt I was gonna pass...But a timing chain I think I'll get.....Thank you everyone...this Forum is great!!!!

Timing chains will last pretty much the length of the car BUT only if you properly maintain it with oil changes using quality oil & filter. I learned the hard way with going to these lube places & my chain had to be replaced at 100k to the tune of $2300. My 2nd car I’ve had my oil changed strictly at the dealer every 5k miles with Full Synthetic & this car has almost 300k on it & still going strong with the original timing chain. No more independent shop oil changes for me.

 

There are plenty of people who use independent shops for maintenance who's timing chains don't grenade. Thanks for stopping by.

 

Rule of thumb. A timing chain will have a metal cover and a belt will be plastic.
