Throttle Body Service

At my last oil change and service (~14k), the Hyundai service advisor recommended a throttle body cleaning for the car at my next service interval.

Questions.

1. Is cleaning the throttle body necessary at around 20k?
2. Should this not be included in the "free" standard maintenance package?
3. If you had it done at the dealership, how much did they charge you?

Thank you.

The only time I've needed throttle body cleaning is when the idle speed starts to rise and hunt. Then I just force it open with my hand when off and spray the pivot points.

Some cars the intake manifold really will sludge up over time. A catch can can help when put inline with the PCV hose. But then that's another maintainer item to take care of.

On my Genesis Coupe with ETB, the first one I've had, about every 5 years I have to spray some carb cleaner in the open throttle body at the pivot points. Also try to get the back of the throttle plate the best I can. I usually wait until it starts to idle fast and not normally. If I don't clean it it will leave me stranded in limp mode or in a mode I have to keep clearing to get home. Limp mode is cleared by a restart.....usually.

Since it's an easy DIY job I clean the throttle body every 50,000 miles on the fuel injected cars I've owned.
If I were paying somebody else to do it, I'd wait until 100K miles or some issue with idling etc.

I took my 2022 Tucson LTD with 17,000
Miles on it to Big Star Hyundai in Webster Texas. Without even looking at my car they said I needed 434$ worth of non covered maintenance work including throttle body cleaning. I left. I felt like they were trying to scam me. They also said 199$ if they determine my check engine light is bc of a non covered item.
