Radio Control Knob Does Nothing

Just bought a new 2012 Sonata a few days ago. I can't seem to adjust radio controls like the bass, treble, fade, balance, etc. I push the knob in and nothing changes on the lcd screen. Turning it just changes the XM channel or station frequency. The knob even says to press it for controls. What am I doing wrong?

...Donning my flame retardant suit as we speak. Question to the OP, did your car come with an ownwr's manual or quick guide to features? It will explain the operation of many of the features on your new car like how to roll down the windows, starting, selecting gears as well as the operation of the radio. Congratulations on your purchase.

Do you have the head-unit's mode selected to "RADIO"? The operation of that button varies depending on which mode you've selected.
GLS model. I guess it's on "radio" since I am listening to FM radio. Shouldn't the bass/treble settings pop up once I press that knob in?

I have read the manual. Looking at it now. It says this exactly!

*ADJUSTING THE SOUND CONTROL
1. Press the TUNE knob (D)
2.Select "Bass, Middle, Treble, Fader, Balance" by pressing the TUNE knob (D)
Rotate tune knob to adjust
3.Press tune knob when done

But, when I press the tune knob these settings don't display. It just keeps on playing music and I see the FM or XM song that plays.

So, if this is not how your Sonata radios function then what is up with mine? I am going by the manual. Just wanted to see if others had an issue before I show the service dept this issue.

That is not how the radio functions in this car. Read your manual.

Obviously, something sinister is affecting your knob. I would recommend a good polishing.

You are pressing the volume knob, on the left, closest to the steering wheel, correct? If you are pressing anything else, that is probably the problem.
What are you talking about!? The knob on the left is the volume/power knob. Pushing it in will turn the radio on/off.

Anyways figured it out. The quick reference manual says the way I posted above to go into and change settings....which is wrong!
The correct way is to press the "setup" button. Then use the right side knob to navigate to the sound controls (and other options like bluetooth). This was actually in the regular manual. So the smaller quick reference manual is not correct.

Not sure why all you Sonata owners could not point that out to me when I first asked the question. lol

True, I was thinking of the Eclipse H/U I have in my Accord. Sorry man.

Your 2012 is not like my 2011, obviously they made some changes. Your quick reference guide sounds correct for the 2011's. Also, there are three different radios in the 2011's, depending on model and options. I guessed at which one you might have.

Do back to the dealer and have the salesperson who sold you the car earn his commission by giving you an orientation and showing you how to operate the radio.
Its a checklist item at my dealer that he went through it and I had to initial it.

I had him give me the list as we started going through it (as it was Duh factor stuff) and initialed it all and he just looked and said "Lesson over?" I said "good deal". LOL!

Yeah, that one stumped me also. Why couldn't it work like most radios (and how the manual states)?.... I wonder if there will be a TSB to somehow remap that button. How do you like the sound? I gotta crank mine up like 80% to get it where I like it; I feel like I'm pushing that lil amp to the max though (SE model, base stereo)
