hello all,

i have been having this problem for a while, but its gotten to a point where i need to fix it now. All the driver's power seat control work except for the one that raises the back of the seat. A few months ago, if i held the button at a weird angle it would work and raise the seat, but now even that does not work anymore, but when you do push the button down to lower the seat it still works; it just the raise the rear that isnt working. is there any possible way to fix this as my car is out of warrenty. the seat is currently at the lowest rear position, and i cannot raise it so i can get to a comfortable driving position.

my car is a 2006 hyundai sonata lx - 80k miles.

thankyou.

The likelihood is that the switch is bad, since you could jiggle it just so before and it would work. If I were you, I'd take out the switch and jumper out the wires and see if the seat will move that way. At least you should be able to move the seat back to a useable position. If you can get the seat to move, you'll know the problem is the switch.

If you want to get high tech, you can follow these diagrams. Pic 1 is the location of the wiring harnesses, pic 2 is the continuity table to test for the wiring harness pins when you actuate the switch.

thanks for the quick reply guys,

alfu: i cannot hear any whine from the motor at all.

jsinton: that was very informative, i will try it out this weekend and get back to you on that.

also if the switch is bad, where would i be able to get a replacement?
It's probably going to be a dealer only part, unless you can find one in the junkyard. Be sure and let us know how you make out for future reference.

So I am having the same problem with my 2006 Sonota. The only difference is that my driver's seat won't move forward. Had hail damage and repair company moved it all the way back and can't get it to move forward. don't know if this would be cause by water since my car did receive water on the inside which pooled on the driver side. Any suggestions on how to get my seat to start working?!

Replace the seat switch, a lot of the early ones were a crap shoot.. there was recall for short period of time on some, then they closed it.

Not hard to do, just need a long phillips to do it.

Driver side seat recline doesnt work

Back of driver's seat is stuck in full forward position and will not move/recline. (Makes me lean forward in the position of a blue-haired old lady.)

I'd like to repair it without replacing entire lower seat, even if a jumper wire will do the trick. Dealer says the wire with switch (pic attached) cannot be purchased separately; requires purchase of lower rail for $800+ which seems ridiculous for a switch problem.

Also, the pivot point of the seat back has (I think) a stop limit switch which may have been removed by previous owner.

Attached are 2 pics of the pigtail and switch that seems to be broken.

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated.

Test it before replacing it.

I had this issue and ordered a new one to replace it myself. The seat was stuck close to the steering wheel. There is a screw on the back left side of the driver seat trim. There is another under the trim at the front of the seat. There is a removable trim panel on the from. Just pull it off then you will see the screw. I didn't remove the whole piece of trim from the left of the seat. Just enough to get to the switch. But I found that the issue was the bottom connector. It was loose. When I pushed it back in the seat started working. I had the dealer replace this switch over a year ago. The seat only gets move when my girl drives my car which is not often. So I guess they didn't push it all the way in. I still replaced it with the new just because. But check the switch first as it could be loose.

Seat fix - Manual?

I have the same problem. A 2006 Sonata with 125,000 miles. My driver seat won't recline anymore. It still moves forward and back, will incline, but not recline? Took it to a dealer who said that the rail was busted and it would cost $1300 to fix. Is there a manual way to adjust the seat into a driveable position and just leave it there? Don't want to put lots of money into an old car.

That's a super shotgun approach if I've ever seen one.
Yeah, what he said.

I hope your dealer didn't charge you for checking your seat. If they did and replacing the switch fixes your problem, I'd be paying them a visit and asking them how their tech could make such a huge misdiagnosis (and I'd be looking for your money back). Absolutely no excuse for that.

I suspect the switch will be a dealer part but a quick search on e'bay is always worth a try first.

Scott.

Visit local Hyundai dealer of choice,, see the parts counter person, have VIN so they can positive ID chassis in MICROCAT,, then get part number and order it if needed from the region Hyundai PDC.. be couple day out

If they aint got it on hand, maybe make quick call to local KIA delaer and check number there (Kia Optima)...

Seat stuck in forward position,2010 Hyundai Genesis

Hi guys, I'm having the same problem with my 2010 Hyundai Genesis all the switch positions work fine except the food will not go back so it's like it's all the way in the forward position and my knees are touching the dashboard. I was wondering if there is a way to manually override the switch and get it back to a position that I can drive it in..., like I say the switch works in every other position up down back no button-down front and the back tilts forward and back in the seats go up and down everything works except getting The seat to go back after the button has pushed to the forward position and is gone either way up I can't get it to move back now. Any suggestions would be really appreciated how I feel like I'm 9 feet tall in that car now I'm right up on the dash and the steering wheel :)

My money is on the switch itself. I've found parts.com has good prices on Hyundai parts. I don't necessarily agree with the people packing the parts for shipment (kinda shoddy). I believe Capital Hyundai fulfills many of the Hyundai orders. Otherwise a junkyard may have it.

2014 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 33500mi. on the odometer and the driver's side power seat is acting up. The backrest will not move forward without finding the right "position" of the switch. All of the functions aside from the forward backrest adjustment work fine.

We will be taking it in to the dealer on Friday, June 3, 2016 to have it checked and rectified. I will keep you posted as to what the dealer does to fix the issue.

Drive safe :)

I have an 06 LX, seat has been acting up for a long time. Would do everything but go back on the tracks. Same as 3xv the switch had one magic spot that got increasingly harder to find. Bought a new switch on eBay this week for $38 delivered and just installed it tonight in about 20 minutes. Works perfectly now. New switches can be found for $30 and up, RockAuto also lists them. Pretty easy to replace yourself if you are handy and have a cross tip and flat tip screwdriver, and needle nose pliers.

Have the same problem on my 2007 Santa Fe for a long time. It got stuck in lean forward position last Friday, and I am driving like an idiot hoping nobody noticing.
I disconnected the switch and placed it back, but it doesn't work still. Dealer's price for the switch is over $200. I found a bit better price on line but still in $150 range. Ebay sold one last month for about $70 but doesn't have them right now. Any good tips on where and how to find the part I need. The part number for a grey interior is 885210W110J4. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Probably the stop limit switch. Will need to remove the seat to access it. It's a bit of a pain but not too difficult. Just tedious.

As mentioned by previous members, the most likely culprit is the seat switch. The part itself is not expensive. About $7 if purchased in Korea.
To replace the part, the best way to do so is to disconnect the seat from the car, flip it over to access the said part. I bet the dealer will charge more for the labor.
Hope this helps.
