Possible to use Android Auto update from Sonata?

Hey folks! My girlfriend just picked up a 2016 Tucson Limited last night. I've got a 2015 Sonata. Well, we didn't realize until last night that Android Auto wasn't released for the Tucson yet. She loves AA in my Sonata and this was a purchasing factor in the decision for her to get the Tucson.

The navigation unit seems to be the exact unit used in my Sonata. I'm wondering if I download the Android Auto update from the myhundai.com page for my Sonata.....will the update work for the Tucson? Has anyone tried this or have any idea if it'll work? The last thing I want to do is brick her brand new navigation unit.

Thanks,

Greg (psitech)

I would imagine it won't work. Probably tied to the VIN.

You should call hyundai's customer support and tell them exactly that and ask when it will be released. How long do you have to return the vehicle to the dealer? I think you normally have a few days to change your mind, if you call during that window you will probably get a better response.

I was told they have not release any Tucsons with AA yet (still working with google) and that they were trying to figure out how to make it available for existing owners once it is ready. Apparently a specific version of the navigation maps are required, so I don't think you can just take the update from the sonata and apply it to the Tucson.

take both SD cards and check file system. 99% it will work just fine if both run on android.

Maybe it's just me, but I would think that if it worked for more than just the Sonata, wouldn't they just release for all?

Exactly, if were that simple they would have already released it. We certainly know Hyundai is not shy about releasing things that are not 100% ready for prime time (example welcome lights and early dct issues) Unless the hold up is on the licensing side with google or something.

Certainly someone should give it a try but I'm 99% sure it won't work.

@jan.K I do have the 6-speed automatic with the torque convertor, no other gear box is offered here with the 2.0 CRDi VGT engine. The dual clutch can`t handle the amount of torque the 2.0 engine produces over the 1.7 CRDi. So how do you understand the schematic, do I have to route the wires down to the connector in gearbox, or is it possible to use the harness on the clock spring ? I am bit confused now, but don`t have the guts to open the steering wheel up yet ;-)

Congratulations, your 2015 Sonata with navigation is eligible for a complimentary Apple CarPlay update courtesy of Hyundai Motor America

I took a look at both software versions on both navi units and the naming convention for the software had the vehicle designation in the name. LF for Sonata and TL for Tucson. I decided not to chance it after seeing that.
