I own a 2002 Santa Fe LX V6 with 89K on the clock. For a while I've been going to the dealer for all of my oil changes,(mainly for the fact they match all the $20 oil change coupons), but now with my car out of warranty I want to move to synthetic.... But I'm a little iffy about it and I know this is the best place to get answers.
Here's what I want to know:
1) What do you Oil Brand/Weight do you use?
2) What Filter do you use?
3) Have you had any problems using the oil/filter combo?
4) What brand(s) of oil/weight/filter would you recommend for me? I know everyone has a preference (I live in Houston, drive about 1-1.5K a month, 60/40 split for driving (city/highway))
I know that Hyundai doesn't recommend (in fact, I think there is a TSB stating) that you shouldn't use aftermarket filters. I know from a prior experience that the oil has leaked due to Jiffy Lube not changing something (a gasket I assume) when they did the change. I know the benefits of synthetic, and I would love to move to 6K+ oil changes even if it cost $35 for oil/filter... but I want to do it knowing that I'm not harming my engine in anyway. Thanks for any/all input.
