Oil/Oil Fliter-what do you use?

Hmm.... do you use your OE filter with Synthetic? And I think I'll go with a 5W-30, since I think that's what they use down here (from my dealer.)

The only problem I have with using the OE filter is that I feel that if I run my car say 7.5K/6 months between changes the thing will not filter after say 5K. I'm looking at either a PureOne (but they now have a synthetic filter... decisions decisions.) or a Bosch Distance Plus for the filter. The oil brand I'm still debating on.
Don't worry about your filter "not filtering" after 5k miles. These engine are not dirty enough to plug a filter in that amount of time. I've run filters past 8k miles with no problem. Some vehicles even recommend changing the filter every other oil change. My old Toyota Camry recommend that, if memory serves.

I would also point out that 7,500 miles is the recommended factory oil change interval, unless you fall under severe service. Just another indicator that you don't need to worry so much about the factory filter. Attached is a screen shot from the manual for a 2002 Sante Fe.

You're definitely over thinking this, as far as the oil and filter go. Use the 5w-30 recommended in the manual. You can use basically any name-brand oil without worries. Walmart will usually be the cheapest for oil prices, unless you start shopping the sales at auto parts stores or other places. I had problems with a non-factory filter on my Sonata, so I'm sticking with dealer filters on this car. On all my other cars I use aftermarket filters.

Anyway, I used to use Hyundai filters, but visually I was not impressed with it, and I just HATE going to a dealership for anything. Any dealership.
How were you "visually not impressed with it"? What didn't you approve of?

Just looking at the outside, the filter has a nice thick can and silicone anti drain back valve. And, if you cut it open it has metal end caps and a lot of even, nicely spaced media.

What's not to like?

Now, if you hate dealers, that's one thing. But I don't see an obvious reason to be "visually not impressed" by the OEM Hyundai filter.
