How many miles on your car? I assume it's still fairly new so I would think the oil should be more of a golden color if you just got it changed. Maybe they didn't change the filter or drain it properly. I have another car with 50k miles and the oil still looks pretty clean after oil change and 2k of driving.

 

15000 total miles

 

My car has 21K and dealer does all the oil changes every 3.5K The oil always looks dirty after the change. (after 100 miles or so the oil looks like it was never been changed, very dark brown..almost black)

 

I've had the exact same experience. I'm glad I'm not the only one. On all of my previous cars, the oil looked clear on the dipstick after an oil change.

I would guess that due to the way the internal structure of our engines are designed, only about 70-80% of the old oil drains out. Maybe an over night drain would make for cleaner looking oil after a change.

You could also changed it a few times at once to flush all of the old oil out, but that would be rather wasteful.

Fill, run the engine, drain, refill. repeat 2x. lol

 

I usually let my oil drain for 10-15 minutes before replugging and refilling. I ALWAYS change the filter with an oil change. Oil always looks very clean (golden) after a change.

 

Does it take that long to stop pouring out? How long do you go between changes.

 

I usually always change my oil, but the first few will be done by the dealership since it is free.

I will mark the oil filer so that I can tell if it was changed or not. I would raise **** if it was not. I still have 2500 miles left until the first change.

 

Is the level correct? How many miles between the oil change and the check?

Next time, pull the dipstick out before you take the car home. A couple miles should not change the color all that much if at all.

 

i have the same experience. whether i get it changed at a dealer (have had it done by 2) or even one time i had it changed at a quick stop place in a pinch. after i get home and check the oil it looks dirty and unchanged. this is 11 model, 2 years old, but the result was the same even after the first 2-3 oil changes. i was concerned about it the first time as i noticed it after the quick stop change, but like i said, same result from dealer change after that.

 

Weird, I hand change mine and dont have this issue.

I wonder if the GDI engine could cause the oil to be black. I also have 2 % fuel in my oil according to Blackstone. This is borderline high, some of the metals were also high. I think Ill try changing oil more often to see if it helps.

 

I have a 2018 i30 1.6 Diesel. I have the same experience. Oil is black when checking post oil change. I assume it is related to contamination from diesel fuel. My dealer assures me this is normal for the i30 Diesel engine.

 

Some of the old oil is trapped in top of cylinder head. More in the ladder frame and oil pump/balancer in bottom of engine.
