My 2023 Kona SEL is starting to scare me. I mean when the engine light flashes to say that your engine oil is low, it would scare anyone right? This has happened twice in the last 2 months now, and it only happens under a certain driving condition.
Where I live, there are nothing but hills. When I come off the Interstate, the 4 lane access road is long and fairly steep. In order to get up to 50 mph on this access road, going uphill, you have to "put the petal to the metal." Twice I have done that aggressively, as opposed to the normal just increasing speed. Why? Because when cars are coming, you must get up to their speed in a hurry. In the 55 years I've been driving, the last time the engine oil light cam on was on a used car back in the 60s. I have NEVER seen an engine light come on in a brand new car since.
Yes, as soon as I got the car home, I checked the oil level, and it was right on the money. We all know that when you are warned about low oil levels, the wise thing to do is immediatly pull over and check the level right? But on THIS road, there is no place to pull over, and besides, my house is at the top of the hill anyway so I'm almost home. Something is REALLY wrong here. There is no reason or excuse for the engine oil lights to light up your dashboard when there's plenty of oil. So what do you think is causing this? By the way, this is my second Kone. I unloaded the first one a couple years ago when it was discovered that it and many more had BAD PISTON RINGS. The only reason I bought a second one because I loved the looks. But now I'm wondering if all Kona's are just pure junk and time to get rid of this one too.
