Hey all, I have a 2004 1.1 GSi Getz and was wondering if anyone could tell me where the OBD II port is? I am going to be getting a diagnostic scanner soon and cant recall seeing it? Also, does anyone know where i can get a repair manua, as I have figured they dont make Haines manuals for the Getz! Thanks in advance

Its under the dash on the driver's side. Kneel down next to the car, stick your head under the dash ( in the general the area of where the pedals are) - look up - and you'll see it right there.

I actually bought a OBD bluetooth adapter just a couple of days ago. If you haven't bought yours yet, look for one that has a separate power switch. The OBD port on a Getz has 12V power all the time, so the bluetooth device is always on. It could drain your battery if you don't drive the car often.

I want mine in the car permanently, so I ended up soldering a small switch in line with the power from the plug (had to open the OBD device in order to do this). I still have to reach down under the dash to switch it on/off though. Just waiting for the day that I will forget to switch it off...
I've come up with a plan to get around this: Take 12V power from somewhere in the car that is only powered up when the ignition is on. That way the OBD device will be switched on/off automatically whenever the ignition is on/off. I'm still leaving the switch that I soldered on, so that I have the ability to switch it off completely if I'm not planning on using it for a while.

You will also notice that - depending on which OBD device you get - it might stick out a little bit too far from under the dash and that your foot keeps touching.
I was scared that I might accidentally break it at some point, so I removed one of the screws that holds the car's OBD bracket on (there are only 2) and turned the entire bracket by 90 degrees. Now my foot doesn't touch it any more.

@ Red Rasberry - I considered getting an extension harness, but it would have to be bought online and I didn't want to wait/spend additional money on it. (Sometimes the shipping costs to South Africa are more than the product itself!)

A bit of a thread jack, but I thought I'd add it here for the sake of completeness and to illustrate what I meant in my post above:

My adapter with on/off switch and lead for external power:
The wires sticking out of the adapter are so that I can either use my 12V ignition power lead, or the OBD2 port's power - depending on whether it is used in my own car or someone else's. Its basically just a split in the power coming from pin 16 on the OBD plug to the switch inside.

The wiring harness:

One end will splice into 12V that is connected to the ignition (with a 1A fuse for safety) and the other end plugs into the Bluetooth adapter.

The lead that is hanging loose from the adapter will have permanent 12V power on it when its plugged into the car, so be careful. Notice that I used female plugs on the ends of the wires that are live. A female plug is less likely to short on something inside the dash, as the exposed ends of the contacts are hidden inside the plug.

Planning on doing the install during the coming weekend - after the Xmas madness is over.
