When you close the top the catch has two arms that come out and the middle piece broker off. This mechanism is on the stationary part of the box (the lid is just a hole with piece in middle). A bit difficult to get a pic.
Dont know, but I would say that the whole box is probably snapped in place in the dash. Check if there is any screw in the bottom of it (hidden..) and try to remove it by pulling on it. Then you will probably be able to see the mechanism of the latch and if something is broken.
Did you ever remove the box? the clip that hangs down broke on mine - 2013 Santa Fe - and it is hard to glue on. There are 2 screws under the rubber pad but I think there are posts also into the dash. I want to remove it, remove the cover and put it back in. Yes I did see it shipping from Korea and refuse to pay for something that is just plastic.
I'm having the same problem with the latch on my 2012 Santa Fe. I took it out of the dash. If you close it you have to pry it open, if you want to close it you have to push the latch clip back then close it. I thought about just taking the lid off but haven't yet figured out how to get off.
Mine broke too. Does anyone know how to disengage the automatic lift of the top of it? Id be fine just having it closed with no catch if it didn’t want to open itself.
Mine broke as well. Looks like it just clicks into place with clips. Don't use too much force or you could end up breaking something else even more expensive. $200-$300 seems way to high for this little box, but nothing is cheap when it comes to cars these days.
PS Working on it....
Hi, I'm from Chile, and I have a 2015 Santa Fe, I need to replace this storage compartment but I don't know how to remove it from the panel. I searched the internet for videos on how to remove it, however I can't find any. Can you help me by indicating how to do it? Thank you so much.
I have a 2016 santa fe sport and I was able to get my top of the dash board storage box out. You take out the rubber mat that is inside the box remove 2 philip screws that are in the rear of the box take a flat blade screwdriver with as thin a blade as you have or something similar and at the 2 front corners of the box slowly pry the corner up a little bit then do the other corner you will be able to see the compartment raise a bit and work your way around each side and it will come out
Has anyone found a cheaper replacement part for it besides almost $300?
