I20 Fuel Tank Capacity

Whenever I fill the car up, I can never get more than about 30 litres to go in, although the fuel tank capacity is listed as 45 litres. When I'm just going backwards and forwards to work I usually wait until the light comes on before I pop to the petrol station. The gauge always show full afterwards. I can't figure out why this would be and the dealer was drawing a blank too. I wondered if anyone else had a similar problem.

Thanks. I filled it up yesterday and I just about managed to get 30 litres in, and I had to keep trying after it clicked off several times. The fuel gauge shows just below full this time. That always happens when I fill up at Tesco's and the forecourt is on a slope. I'm wondering if the gauge may be faulty and it shows empty before it is. I don't really want to risk trying it and running out of petrol in an awkward spot though.

With my current vehicle (Citroen Berlingo), it's very seldom that the fuel gauge shows full. I usually fill up until the first 'cut out', squeeze the trigger slowly to round up to the nearest ÂŁ and that usually ends up showing ~7/8th on the fuel gauge. It must be something to do with the shape of the tank and the position of the vehicle (sloping one way or the other) ?

My guess is, probably the car is on slope while filled up. i20 in my opinion is very sensitive to the slope.
Usually on mine the light comes on then kilometers to empty is about 100. Usually I drive 50 - 60 km after that. So there should be left less then 5 liters left in the tank. I always use the same petrol station and usually the same pump as well. I can fill about 40 - 41 liters.
Sometimes this pump is taken. Then I use different pump, whatever is vacant. Sometimes I can fill only 35 - 36 liters and kilomiters to empty after filling up is less then usual.
My petrol station looks flat, I can't spot any slope.
Note - the light comes on earlier then 50 kilometers left. Kilometers to empty goes blank, then you have less then 60 kilometers to empty.
Sorry about my English.

Dear Friends, My new Asta was drinking fuel (Diesel) into its tank like a real thirsty car. i filled it upto 40 when the auto cutoff was activated. But even after that the car was able to fill upto 48 litres and still morehttp://www.hyundai-forums.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif. But we stopped at 48, not wanting to take a risk of over flow or what so ever the event be. When i consulted my dealer they said that the actual tank along with the tubes that link fuel tank opening to the fuel tank totally can hold 52-54 litres of diesel. So it is normal that filling above 45. But try not to fill too much after cut-off, as the fuel may spill out of tank and may spoil the paint etc.

Fuel Tank

Your tank is a 45lt tank. If you drive your car until it is empty and the light goes on, you can still go 55KM this will show on your central computer, once the you exceed the 55km mark you will see that your computer shows the following --------

After 55KM your reserve starts to work and you can go another 30KM with your car, this is a safety feature.

If you exceed the 55KM mark you will be able to fill 45lt in your car.

Fuel tank capacity

Hi,

i recently taken a pre-owned i20 2012 model first time i went for a full tank fillup surprisingly i was able to fill 44.90 liters as i heard that after the fuel indicator lights yellow i should be left with min 5 liters in tank as per the posts ,not able to judge is it wrong with the filling pump or with the fuel tank .

Hi, I would suggest that you do the following, every car owner should actually do this, get a fuel container and fill it with 4 litres of the same fuel your car use. Put the container with a funnel in your car boot when the fuel light comes on. Drive until your car actually run out of fuel. Note where the fuel gauge is and remembers this position, now you know where is the needle where your about to run out of fuel. Now use the funnel and fuel to fill your car, importantly find out how to start your car after running out of fuel, some models have some trick to it, but should be very simple.

johannb, hi and welcome to the forum.

Advice from new members is always welcome and encouraged, however, I would never encourage anyone to intentionally run out of fuel unless the car is stationary and in a safe place, certainly, never on the public highway as doing so can be dangerous and cause unintended consequences. Furthermore, I would not in any case encourage anyone to purposely run out of fuel as it could cause issues with the engine management system.

Please update your profile with your country of residence and vehicle driven. This will help us to help you with more specific advice should you require it in the future.

Thanks, frupi.
