2013 Hyundai i10 1.25litre petrol engine. Engine started first thing in the morning, then stalled. My daughter tried to restart it, but it wouldn’t start.
I put the battery on charge for the day and refitted the battery in the evening. Still no start.
Mechanic came out with a mobile diagnostic machine, but picked up no error codes.
We decided fuel pump or filter was the problem. I took the unit out and he took it away. He tested the output pressure at 3 bars, which I’ve heard is correct. He also said the filter was still in good nic.
Refitted fuel pump/filter. Still no start. Lots of pressure in the fuel line from the tank to the fuel rail.
I removed spark plugs and checked gaps. All gaps were over 1.1mm and should be 0.8mm. I’ve reset them all to 0.8mm but still no start. There is spark at the plugs.
According to what I’ve read, it cannot be the crank sensor, because the rev counter shows about 250 rpm when cranking. It could be a cam sensor but I don’t know how to test a 3wire sensor.
The immobiliser light (with a key superimposed over the car) on the dash is on, which I presume means the immobiliser is in working order.
Fuel coils have pulse.
If it’s injectors, how do 4 injectors block up at the same time.
This engine has a timing chain, not a belt. Camshafts are turning. Cylinders have pressure.
I’ve unplugged and replugged all sensors hoping to break any corrosion between the connectors.
I’m at my wits end. I won’t go to our local Hyundai agents. When I spoke to them, dollars flashed in front of my eyes, from timing belt to redoing the head.
Does anyone have knowledge of what is happening here?
What is left to check.
Thanks,
Peter.
