Here are Hyundai's passenger car sales figures for 2011 for Australia. This doesn't include commercial vehicles such as vans, MPVs, and trucks.

i30 28869
Getz 11499**
ix35 11487
i20 8708
i45 4872
Elantra 4574*
Santa Fe 4442
Accent 3625*
i40 394*
Grandeur 6**

For the Americans, ix35 = Tucson. i45 = Sonata. Grandeur = Azera.

* = new model, or new nameplate, introduced part-way through the year
** = discontinued model

What are the figures for i45 sales by colour and by state and by year month up to Feb 2012. I got my white 2.4 i45 active in February 2012. Seeing about 3-4 cars on the roads each day I drive from Oakleigh Southbound where I work. It is really a looker and that being determined by the public. When I drove into a hockey grounds in Mount Waverley I saw a car stop in its tracks to view this writers car. When I parked in a local park where I go for my nightly walks some 5 blokes just gathered around my car and one even leaned on the bonnet. I did not dare intervene but carried on with my walk but kept an eye on the onlookers. Lookers are my biggest distraction when I drive my i45.

VFACTs don't record colour information so there is no way of knowing. Hyundai sold 377 i45s in Feb 2012, which is 68% more than they sold last Feb (224). I don't have information about sales per state.

I have all the figures for 2012 so far for i45:

Jan 320
Feb 377
Mar 340

Total Q1: 1037.

Nothing special, I'm afraid. At this rate it will sell approx 4,000 for the year. Last year it sold 4,800.

What do you mean by "publically see" ? To change your image (or avatar) click on "user CP" at the top then "edit avatar" on the left. I'm not sure what you mean by your question about advertising either. When the i45 first came out there was quite an extensive TV advertising campaign for it?

Sorry for the late reply. The figures for April were just published in an article.

i45 - 276 (1313 YTD)
i40 - 109 (543 YTD)

Incidentally, the i45 just turned 2 years old a few days ago, having been launched on May 24th, 2010. So far, the cumulative sales total is 8223, or an average of 343/month over it's lifespan so far.

It boggles my mind as well - there isn't one single reason but many. Basically, while the mid-size segment is quite large in the USA, here, it's one of the smallest segments of the market. The biggest segments here are compacts, sub-compacts, and SUVs. So you've got a lot of mid-size competitors fighting for a very small slice of the pie.

FYI, Sonata sales in Australia peaked in 1997, when 7390 were sold. It's unlikely they'll ever hit anywhere near that kind of number again.

I wanted to ask if there was a special way of quickly removing condensation on the i45 windscreens. In the recent days since the commencement of winter I have found the traditional way of defogging my windscreen a little too slow for my liking , taking sometimes about 2-3 minutes of cold/hot dry air and all the demisters switched on before the windscreens start clearing of condensation. Do you have any inputs for my consumption as to whether I am doing this right or is there an issue for me to raise?

Thanks for the comment on my Cardomain site. 357 is average, it could be better but Hyundai still aren't offering bluetooth or sat. nav which is hurting, plus the only model they're discounting is the 2.0L Active. There's also new competition from the Kia Optima, new Camry, and Hyundai's own Elantra sedan and i40 wagon.

It's hard to believe that Hyundai sold over 7000 Sonatas in 1997 isn't it? Yet the most the i45 has managed so far is 4800 last year. :(

By the way, who did you deal with at Yarra Hyundai? Anil? I got a letter from them the other day, saying something like - you've owned your car for 2 years now, perhaps you might be interested in trading up? We can give you an honest valuation, blah blah. Signed by Anil. I mean c'mon, that's just plain annoying - why would I want to get a new car after only 2 years? I've done barely over 15,000km...
Oh, went through an RBT earlier tonight and the cop said - "you know, this has got to be the cleanest car I've seen all night." :D

I dealt with Andrew Hin, and he was very good to me. Giving me some discount and full tank of fuel, plus carpets. I have been dealing with the Hyundai dealership via the experience of helping two friends trying to source for their ix35 and Accent, one was successful and one failed dismally. I have uncovered some sad practices the dealers have to indulge in to get the sales over the line, not worth spilling over again. In general I am extemely happy with my i45 Active. Yours looks really great. Am seeing quite a few new Hyundai i45s on the road since June 2012.

I get my figures from two places at the moment: fordforums.com.au (you have to register, and you can find the figures in the "tech resources" section. The full list is only published once every quarter), and also from Matt's car blog - bestsellingcarsblog.com. That site covers all countries, so look in the Australian section. He only occasionally publishes the full list of figures.

Here's a list/chart I made of Sonata sales in Australia going back to 1992:
