On your User Menus (control on the right side steering wheel spoke). Press the "Page" icon button. Use your up/down thumb switch to move through the screens. Once you see User Menus, select it and scroll down until you get the odometer setting. (Going from memory...may not have steps sequenced in proper order.) you'll figure it out. You select between MPH and Km's.

Surprised that your salesman didn't handle this for you. Or, at least show you.

sorry Okie but I could only find the temperature and fuel unit settings that you can change. Holding down the OK/Reset will not change the Digital Speedometer. Did a search and found the Genesis Sedan community determined that you cannot change the Digital Speedometer in their cars. Even Hyundai Korea confirmed it. Can you do it with your US spec Elantra ?

Units of measurement, for years was called metric or English, but in the USA, our SAE changed it to metric to SAE, even though our Society of Automotive Engineers didn't have a darn thing to do with the formation of measurement systems.

Sure didn't have any problems with a Ford CMax I rented in Italy to switch these units, switch to miles and MPH, but this was ridiculous as all the speed limits and distances their are in metric, KM/H or MPH, kilometers or miles.

But be darn if I can find how to switch this in my USA Elantra Limited, but can change units for tire pressure, temperature, and even scanned the owners manual.

My reason for wanting to do this is I live very close to Canada and while the British formulated the English system of measurements, they switched to metric. But ever since our last president closed those borders with an executive order and requires a US passport, don't like going up there anymore. Its no problem to drive into Canada, but you are given one hail of a time trying to come back.

Oh, wow...this blows! I hate to admit it...this certainly is funny >> Sounds like Korea was short on parts and decided to use another part. I'm assuming your analog dash gage is in mph. If it is, take your car back to the dealer and explain the situation. This shouldn't be one of those things the consumer should have to check when purchasing the car.

Don't know a darn thing about these Hyundai's, well do know where the gashole is at. But on other vehicles a change from metric to English or vise-versa can be done with a scanner.

Best thing for OP to do is to take it back to his dealer.

Noted on my analog speedometer does have a metric scale on it, but would need a microscope to read it.

I don't expect sales people to know as much or nearly as a mechanic. Some sales reps were overstating the MPG, didn't know the weight of the vechical, what the tech and ultimate package included without reading the window sticker or referring to other references. Wtf

I believe a sales person in the car industry should represent a professionalism both through appearance and their communication skills.

I won't buy a car from some guy with a gold watch, flashy shoes and a physical appearance that crosses the line between manly and feminine (eyebrows shaped in perfect arches, nails all polished up, the handshake feels silky smooth and so on). These are all indications the person is self absorbed.
Problem is - today's 'dealers' have no dedication toward their job is just a stepping stone toward 'big bucks' they are going to earn when they find 'perfect job'. In the mean time, since most are just talking heads they take and consider that job as 'survival job' until they win lotto.

Long time ago, you choose your job to be your profession and you dedicated yourself to it. Today 99% of jobs are just to grab few bucks, who cares about customer. You do not like it? No problem. There are zillions new immigrants/refuges/you_name_it to cheat. Next in line, please.

The whole state of economy goes down the drain as employers do not want to invest into employees. No pension plan, no medical, if Chinese/Indians can do cheaper (quality? who is talking about quality???) lets hire them. Lets outsource. Hey! My dedicated hard working staff makes great product. It never breaks. Yes, it cost $100. Overseas in some jungle Mao can do the (almost) the same product for $20. What? It breaks after few months of use? No problem. You buy another one for $20. Hey! You can get 5 for the price of one. And not to worry; our customer service is superb. They will answer Every question you have (as long as it matches list of questions appearing on a screen). You cannot understand their Engrish?. You are racist! They are hard working temps earning big bucks supporting 50 others family members overseas... yes, they are allowed to go to the washroom. Once per day...

Hmm...good points. I'm still young-ish, but I'm well versed in business intertwinings. Today's society is sadly being scooped up by larger conglomerates buying smaller business, which in turn leaves less business competition, thus raising prices and passing them onto the consumer. Eh, it wasn't long ago gas prices jumped to nearly $5 a gallon here in Cali just a few years ago....and I recall when Circuit City was around which in turn made business competitive for Best Buy. I'm sure my life will come to an end before I ever truly see a third competitor to compete with Walmart and Target.

Oh man...speaking about poor English skills...I can speak a few languages and I've had difficulty understanding the other person over the phone in other languages. If I'm feeling humorous, and the call escalates to management, I'll switch my language to throw the other person off. Usually this is with English to Spanish. It would appear Amazon has a difficult time understanding English and Spanish depending on the representative.

Personally, I'm not going to choose what dealership to buy a car from based on the salesperson - similar to I'm not going to buy a house b/c I like the particular realtor that listed it. Now a good salesman/realtor might get me to buy something I wasn't considering before, etc.

The thing with car salesmen is there is a HUGE turnover - the guy at the Hyundai dealer today likely wasn't there two weeks ago and might be selling Fords next month - with that kind of churn, it is hard to keep up-to-date on each model.

And while some customers might need more info on specific features of a given model, a lot of people just need re-assurance that they are making the right decision and someone to fill out the paperwork to close the deal for them.
Well tiger, you have your viewpoint and I have my own. I strongly believe a person represents the company they work for at any level of employment. Be it the manager all the way down to low level employees. Im the take charge type. Just about the only situation that makes me nevious is when I have to prepare myself for court and speaking in court. Meh, it's rare this arises.

Your reference to a leapfrog blind career chasing sales person shouldn't be an excuse the employee isn't informative of what they're selling. I may swallow a situation were a household necessity such as an appliance was sold to me and the staff is ill informed about features...I won't accept a large purchase in the tens of thousands of dollars to be an excuse the sales staff is uncertain if features are on the car or not.

(rhetorical question) If making excuses is something to be acceptable in business proposals, why can't my word be good enough when accepting a purchase? >>because business is ran on assurances through acknowledgment of signing papers. I expect the very same out of the product being sold through proper knowledge/ training out of the sales staff.

As to your last paragraph, this is why the world is full of suckers. People need to take control of their lives and stop bitching about the poor deals they received or how dissatisfied they are with how things were handled at a later date. America is sadly built on the excuse acceptance of what should be a logical solution of how an adult should handle things.

...case in point...there's not only a possible problem the sales staff may or may not be aware of what they're selling as a whole per each product in-depth ...but the actual dealership believes in the customer being unable to control their negotiating power by packaging all that crap and forcing the customer to consider those added features.

My closest dealer did not have the lowest price, but is advantageous to buy from the dealer you intend to have your service done.

Internet sure makes life easy, received quotes via email from six other dealers, emailed these to him, so beat them all, still remained on a friendly basis. Do the same thing with my auto/home insurance, make a copy of my policy, form letter, and get a bunch of email addresses, lot quicker than chasing around or spending hours on the phone.

Ha, they say doesn't hurt to ask a question, but the answer you get may really hurt you.

We can agree to disagree on this ...

Personally - I'm not going to pick a dealership to buy a car from based on the salesman's knowledge of the features and option of the car. I'll use the brochures to see what is available, I'll look at the car to make sure it has what I want. Essentially, all I look for the salesman for is going on the test drive to make sure I bring the car back and filling out my info on the sales application.

Not exactly the same thing, but if I am buying a house, I'm going to do a walk-thru and hire a professional inspector - I'm not going to just find a realtor that seems to know most of the details on the house.

I'm a bit curious how it would have played out at the other dealership (with the lock lugs and tint and pinstripes). They were further away from me, but they had a slightly lower price - I'm wondering if they would actually sell for that price, although I didn't want most of those features. And on price - the dealer with the lock lugs was about $300 less on their website than the dealer I went to was on their website. Price I bought for was around $1000 less than my dealer advertised on their website, so ...

Another way to convert kilometers per hour to miles per hour is to multiply the former by 0.62137119224, heck 0.62 is close enough.

Ha, use to be good at this in my head, but electronic calculators ruin this for me, have to use one for 2 +2.

Flying was tricky with VFR, was statue miles and the gauges were this way, but IFR used nautical miles, more math, forgot the constant a long time ago.

We use to thing we were great, but learning just a small group of people living on a tiny insignificant planet in an infinite universe. So you would think we would have one language and one system of units of measurement.

The kilometer and mile are strictly arbitrary units of measurement, we have a lot more knowledge today. Should come up with one based on scientific principles so everybody will be confused.
