Dear hyundai-forums-er,
Recently my GDS VCI has behaved strangely, it connected to my computer, OK and the vehicle have no problem, but the software poped up a notification " please check ignition on, cable, v.v..". However, i have change every part like cable, use board inside the VCI GDS. I come to conclusion there maybe something wrong with mainboard. Have you ever faced this problems?
Could anyone give me any advice?
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards

Also have a lot to learn about these things, is yours something like this?

And when people talk about computers, is this some kind of laptop or the computer in their car? What in the heck are all those connectors for, and what does the color of the car have to do with this? See they sale red or blue or both.

Are all those photos in the shop manual shot off a scanner or a laptop?

Are all those cables between those connectors made in China? Do know something about these, while they look thick that is because they can use recycled plastic bottles, get those for free, the Pacific Ocean is loaded with these. But when you cut them open, lucky to find one or two strands of 50 AWG wire inside, this is because copper is very expensive and they break very easy. Just speculating, but maybe this is your problem.

The box in the photo is called a VCI (Vehicle Communications Interface). It doesn't have a display on it so you need a computer/laptop to view the trouble codes, etc.

That's just branding. Blue is the tool destined for Hyundai workshops, red is for Kia.

AUTOSPARK -
YES, i have checked the power and ground lines because i have another GDS VCI, so i think the problem coming from GDS VCI itself.

as AUTOSPARK has mentioned, this is called the Interface, so it's a little different from scanner, it need an computer or laptop to connect ... and all the cables used to connect to vehicle.

I use PC in my bay,, no dead battery like laptop, it connected to wall all the time..

VCI is used to COM with car via cable that plug into DLC, and plugged into VCI all time.. Run 2nd cable all time to hard wire VCI to PC via USB,, then I can do updates willy-nilly

Have other cables for Flight Record, cable to plug into 6 / 8/ 10 pin from DLC plug on VCI cable for older model PCM / TCM updates and code saving for RKE

I have GDS software here on home PC just because,, but Hyundai stop PC based GDS udates 12/31/2016,, so I can do stuff applicable to 12/31.. anything later,,,, need tablet,, piece of crap !

My 2015 version has stopped working. It says to update the VCI firmware in the configuration menu and also to update to N-H-01-19 software. It will not connect to the vehicle.

Don't know where to get any updates as it's a clone.

So what's the what? Just buy an new clone? Do I have to get a tablet?

Yes I did, I started with a wiped drive and new Win 10 install. Basically a dedicated laptop. the GDS. I loaded the Win 10 usb drivers on today and still no luck.

I don't know why it is now telling me I need to update? It's been a couple years since I last used it and then it did work. May be a Hyundai freeze of some sort on the cloned stuff? Currently have an air bag fault of some sort I need to fix. The software works as far as all the manuals and it tries to connect but then errors out.

The software on the original installation media can't have changed and the firmware in the VCI can't have changed, so is it maybe something in Windows that has changed. Have you tried changing the date in Windows back to when the program last worked? If that doesn't work delete the program and reinstall it with the date rolled back.

If I helped you fix it, why not...

Your support is greatly appreciated

Originally this happened on my XP computer. I upgraded to Win 10 due to no support anymore for Win XP. I changed the date back to 2016 yesterday and when it originally started and did the software check, this time it reported that no software up date required for my 2015 files on that update window. Then gives me the upgrade to 2019 popup. Originally it did not say this and just went to the popup.

I do see where I can set Win 10 to use Win XP compatibility for the program. Have not tried it yet though.

I also see there is no uninstall for the actual GDS program? Just delete it is going to be my next step assuming the XP mode does not work.

So I formatted the HD and went back to XP 2017 or so. The original recovery DVD. And loaded the GDS on. It is the date that stopped it from working. So I set the year to 2015 and it works(browsers do not) but it still won't communicate. All the lights light up and it passes on the software updates. It tries to communicate but fails, even when the VIN is manually put in.

I have a new OBD to VCI cable. All the lights work and show that it is trying to communicate.

It does not show the PC comm light on the VCI. You can hear XP recognizing it when you plug it in or unplug it though. So it might be a driver problem. I know when on Win 10 the PC light on the VCI would be lit when it was connected.

It sounds like you're connecting it to a laptop or something, USB? Maybe try a powered USB hub? Some USB devices use more power than is provided by the computer. Especially computers were early implementations of USB 2.0. When you talk about XP, I'm thinking you might be facing that. (But, I'd try a powered hub even with a newer computer. I've had plenty of problems like this, with external drives. Especially if I have more than one device connected at the same time, like even a USB mouse.).
