You could try pulling the negative battery terminal for about 30 minutes. That might reset it. Could be a glitch if the gas gauge is working correctly.

 

Did you try turning the car off and on a couple times to reset it?

I usually keep it on the MPG setting, but just yesterday I was checking out the miles to empty setting. I'm amazed at how long I can go between fill ups due to the 30+ MPG and large tank.

 

I tried turning the car off and on like 5-6 times no luck, the actual fuel gauge is on the last bar, not blinking yet. The fuel light is on and distance to empty still says 59. Nothing changed after filling up.

I'm going to fill the tank up the rest of the way to see when pump stops on its own, at least i'll know theres fuel in there.

Just remember the tank is 18.9 gallons. So if you pumped at least half that then you should be theoretically half full.

Living where I live I never let the tank go below half. Its too long of a way to have to be towed!

 

Try clearing everything as well thru the steering wheel controls especially the MPG.

 

Just took the car out again, went up a steep hill and the gauge gradually worked up from 1 bar to 3/4 full. Distance to empty still at 59. So something is wrong somewhere

 

sounds like a faulty sensor somewhere.....

 

Try running two full tanks of Chevron Techron through it. Hyundai and other manufacturers strongly recommend it for a reason. It's excellent at cleaning electrical contacts inside the tank that can lead to false readings like this. That's most likely the source of the issue.
