Just filled my 2011 Sonata, prob pumped 3/4 tank worth of fuel in. The distance to empty was on 59 when I pumped the gas, when i got back in the car it was 59.

Something wrong with the sensor in the tank? I don't think a gas station filler can pump gas without giving actual fuel.

Made an appt at local Hyundai just gonna be nervous driving when it says distance to empty - - - lol

I tried turning the car off and on like 5-6 times no luck, the actual fuel gauge is on the last bar, not blinking yet. The fuel light is on and distance to empty still says 59. Nothing changed after filling up.

I'm going to fill the tank up the rest of the way to see when pump stops on its own, at least i'll know theres fuel in there.

Pump sending unit probably bad.

Just remember the tank is 18.9 gallons. So if you pumped at least half that then you should be theoretically half full.

Living where I live I never let the tank go below half. Its too long of a way to have to be towed!

Try running two full tanks of Chevron Techron through it. Hyundai and other manufacturers strongly recommend it for a reason. It's excellent at cleaning electrical contacts inside the tank that can lead to false readings like this. That's most likely the source of the issue.
