AlanTR;4014977.....I don't know why the sticker inside the engine compartment recommends an A3 oil and A5 in the manual. However said:
Yes, as has been mentioned before further back in the thread, it is a touch confusing about what the sticker says in the engine bay and what the book says and then what some of the companies who sell oil say.
If we take the Shell 5w30 AG oil to use as the example, even looking at Shell's own lube match on their official website, if you input the i10 1.2, AG doesn't even come up as the 'recommended oil', 5w30 AF comes up!
I've had this lots of times before with garages too, official dealers who allegedly use different oils to what another dealer might use, which I find a bit odd because of warranty issues if there were ever a problem. As far as I'm concerned, as long as the oil meets the exact spec for the engine, you could use any brand you wanted. Indeed, before now, with my Saab, when I've been a couple of litres short of oil because of splitting oil packs between services, I've just gone to a local supermarket and bought a 2 litre pack of their own branded 5w30 ACEA C3 fully synthetic oil for ÂŁ10, which if you do enough digging, you'll find has come from a major brand oil supplier anyway, and then mixed it with my usual GM Dexos 2 oil, 5w30 ACEA C3. There aren't and won't be any ill effects from doing this, as if one reads the label on the pack, the oil specs are exactly the same.
