Hey! I suspect I am needing a new timing chain for my i20 (G4FA 1.4 engine). I just purchased it, and it looks like the previous owner stretched some of the oil changes out a bit - usually 12500km between services but even one out to 22500 I think (if the logbook is accurate). It is currently at 84000kms, and at idle it makes a dull rattling sound, which is most audible listening through the right front wheel well, where the timing chain is. It seems to go away when throttle is applied.
I should also note, I found a couple flecks of metal in the oil when I did a flush and repeated changes to clean it out. Unclear if it was from this car frustratingly, as I used the same pan to do another car with potential engine issues.
I can try and record some sound as well for a future post.
So, assuming the noise is from the timing chain, and not an engine bearing, what should I do? I see kits on ebay for 180 AUD, or a genuine hyundai one for 599 AUD. Thoughts? Anyone have any experience with aftermarket kits?
Cheers,
Bob
