I have done it and it is very easy. Purchase 2 gallons of Zerex Asian Green or Blue (Whatever color your vehicle currently has) for Hyundai/Kia vehicles. This is the correct coolant and is pre-mixed. You can also buy OEM coolant at the dealer but you will have to dilute it 50/50 with distilled water, up to you.

Just open the drain **** on the right side bottom of the radiator and remove the radiator fill bottle cap an let it drain. Once all the coolant is drained you can rinse the radiator with a garden hose if you want, I didn't as my coolant was still in really good condition. Taking the bottom engine cover off makes it easier and less of a mess but it is about 20 bolts to remove.

Remove and rinse out the overflow tank with water, it's only a couple 10MM bolts and one hose clamp. Put it back on the vehicle once clean.

Then close the radiator drain and fill the coolant slowly through the overflow bottle until you get about 1/2 to 3/4 of a gallon in. Then turn on the car and just continue to add fluid with the overflow cap off until the level doesn't drop anymore and the car is fully warmed up and the thermostat has opened. It takes about 30-40 minutes-this is by far the longest part of the job.

I then go drive the car about 30 minutes and bring it back and check the coolant level. If it is low, wait until the engine has cooled and fill the coolant level to about halfway between min and max on the over flow bottle.

After a few days check the level again and top up if necessary.

Hello Driver123,
Interested in knowing if the drain plug has a a separate "spout" to attach tubing to direct the draining coolant to a container, or does the coolant drain from the same location where the plug is loosened and unable to direct the coolant being drained? See photos 1 & 2 below of vehicles (Toyota / Mitsubishi) that have a seperate place to use a 3/8' etc. tube for the draining coolant.
2016 -2022 Hyundai Tucson with 1.6 T-GDI engine has no radiator cap. I've used the Lisle Spill Free funnel # 24680 for previous coolant drains using where the radiator cap is removed. You would do the same procedure using the overflow reservoir (confirmed by Hyundai). The Lisle funnel does come with correct adapter for use with Hyundai Tucson overflow reservoir. See video tutorial below (turn on the heat while vehicle is running as new coolant is being added.

I looked up Zerex antifreeze on amazon.com and choose the green color. Amazon website said it does not fit my 2019 hyundai tucson. When i choose blue color, then it says that it fits by 2019 hyundai tucson. I bought my car used and it came with green coolant. dont know why amazon said green it is not comparable with my car but the blue color is. I was under the impression any color should be ok.
have you experience something like this for your hyundai using amazon.com?
Yuju,
Amazon's part compatibility process is not the most accurate. As Driver 123 previously posted,
Zerex Asian Vehicle Green Antifreeze/Coolant is correct for the Hyundai Tucson that came with green coolant (Hyundai stated on the container as well)

I could not locate the following Prestone Max Green coolant anywhere (Prestone P/N: AF6610 Max Asian vehicles Green coolant-antifreeze Hyundai specified), so am using Zerex Asian Vehicle Green Antifreeze/Coolant as well.

Car makers generally do not "approve" any aftermarket part or material.
Aftermarket manufacturers can claim their product meets the carmakers specs or get testing and license a car makers certification.
Example: DEXOS for oil.
There is a law (the name escapes me) stating that if a car maker claims that only their OEM part or material can be used,
then the car maker must supply that to the customer free of charge, eg. warranty work.
So car makers only recommend their brand. They do not insist.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act allows for routine maintenance on your vehicle, including oil change, rotating tires, replacing belts, fluid checks and flushes, installing new brake pads and inspections.
“Simply using an aftermarket or recycled part does not void your warranty,” according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
  • An automobile dealer can’t refuse to honor the factory warranty that came with a new car if someone else does routine maintenance or repairs.
  • It’s illegal for an automobile dealer to deny warranty coverage just because routine maintenance or repairs were performed by another person or business. “Routine maintenance” generally includes things like an oil change, rotating tires, replacing belts, fluid checks and flushes, installing new brake pads and inspections.
  • According to the FTC, using aftermarket or recycled/re-manufactured parts doesn’t void a vehicle warranty.
  • The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void a warranty or deny coverage under the warranty because an aftermarket or recycled part was used.
  • The FTC defines an aftermarket part as a part manufactured by a company other than the original vehicle manufacturer/original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

Zerex from Valvoline is the #1 selling OEM-approved coolant brand. Zerex Asian Vehicle Green Antifreeze/Coolant is proven to maximize engine life in vehicles made by Asian auto manufacturers such as Acura, Honda, Infiniti, Nissan and others which specify a green formula that’s silicate and borate-free with Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT). Specially formulated with a phosphate additive, Zerex is made for your car and protects better than industry standards against corrosion, leaking, deposits as well as freezing and boiling – the four main causes of cooling system failure, which is the leading cause of engine breakdown.
