Engine air filter: OEM or other?

I need to change my engine air filter as it still has the original one. Until now I've just been periodically checking it and using a vacuum to clean any surface material and also vacuum out the box that holds the filter. It still looks decent but I figure it's best to replace it anyways.

My local Hyundai dealer says they're $27.
Canadian Tire has a Fram brand filter for $19 (sale) or $21 (regular price).

Price isn't too different and frankly I always thought they were more like $50+. I'm not too knowledgeable about cars though so I'm wondering if a Hyundai air filter is always the best? Could the Fram one possibly be better? Or some other brand? Ideally I can buy in-person instead of online.

Finally, this is my first car and I've never gotten parts from a dealer. If I go with them to get an air filter do I just walk in and buy one or is this something that needs to be ordered in advance?

i know this is canada, but i just now today got in 2 genuine hyundai air filters from amazon 14.39ea. i get free ship from prime. now all i gotta do is get up the motivation to go change them. and, since i just got thru ripping apart the console to change out a usb cable from the pinear, ima take a nap first. then watch a little tv, maybe have a couple tacos, another nap, dang, i got a lot to do. being retired, stuff just aint important any more.

I will be getting OEM since in my area it is about some price as the Fram. Used Fram close to 200k on my last car with no problems. Unlike the Napa (Wix) filter that had a 1" hole in it in 3k miles. My car did suck, but the filter did also.

The problem is good filter one day may be a become a bad one the next depending on who gets the bid to make the filter. OEM is a safe option especially regarding warranty.

Interesting. So if Auto 7 is an OEM manufacturer, does that mean there are other makers of OEM parts for Hyundai too? As in there could be multiple OEM manufacturers of the same part for the same vehicle?

If you make a bulk order such as a bunch of engine air filters and cabin air filters, are there any worry of material degradation? For example my manual says the air filter should be changed every 2 years (or 48,000km). If I buy a bunch to lower the shipping cost, I could potentially have enough air filters for a decade+. But 5 years from now I'm just wondering if the filters will still work the same.

I do plan on driving this car into the ground so hopefully the car is still running 15 years from now. But who knows, maybe I do end up changing cars after a while or may need to replace it due to an accident. Then I would have a ton of parts that'll go to waste lol.

Finally, I'm assuming these ship from US. Do you ever get hit with customs charges?

Use any name brand filter and change as needed. Fram Wix Purolator... are all good.

I use dry synth washable media from AEM and AFE on all my cars. I am too lazy to oil filters and so I dont use KN.

On dry washable media, I have the option of soap washing it or just vacuuming it.

We are likely to suffer a manufacturing issue failure vs a filter caused failure. I fear Hyundai engineering more than KN oil.

Eh, there are a lot of good filter options out there. I did a cost comparison of the better filters and the OEM (which is a good filter) and found that by doing a simple search online there is a Hyundai dealer in Florida with big discounts on OEM parts and very reasonable shipping costs.

Got engine and cabin filters for the fleet ('14 EGT 2.0L, '15 Sonata 2.4L, '16 Elantra 1.8L) for $48 total. No worries about fit, and a good price for three engine and three cabin filters.

Air Filter Engine OEM $12:
All I can say is, I'm a Prime member and ordered one that said "Genuine" and it was "Genuine Korean" but not genuine Hyundai. The name was "Good Fil" and I wrote them-up because it was NOT as advertised!

Part Number Part Name Price Qty Total
28113-3X000 Air Filter $13.69 2 $27.38
08790-2H000-A Cabin Air Filter $17.14 2 $34.28
28113-C1100 Air Filter $13.69 1 $13.69
C2H79-AP000 Filter-Air $17.14 1 $17.14

would have been clearer if the editor kept the format...

Always watch the shipping costs. This order from this vendor was $20.52. Some were as high as $40.

Well, the link I posted is a Hyundai dealer in Florida, the filters were all in Hyundai boxes, and the filters themselves had the logo and part number. All legit. What I have heard from my dealer is that many owner operated dealerships are going to online parts sales as they can undercut the big corporate franchises (Penske, AutoNation) on price and still make good money.

I've mentioned before that even though I have a long and good relationship with the local (Penske owned) dealership, I cannot buy parts from them as cheaply as I can order online from other dealers. Even with the shipping. Even the local independents complain that the Penske dealers will not give them a price break. Attempt to keep branded repairs in house.

I have bought from hyundaioeparts.com as well as Kia Auto Parts in certain cases where PN's were the same for Sonata and Optima. For small things, usually shipping from those places kills the deal unless it's severely cheaper. DC Autoparts on Amazon is one of my favorite sellers as even though they're not Prime, their shipping is extremely fast.

It is owing to the relentless pursuit of perfection in all areas as embodied by Hyundai's slogan "the best or nothing"

Will this post make it 5 pages, saving the best for last^?
"Perfection" would be NO space at the "caret" above! >:D
