Digital Gas Gauge

Alright so this is the first car that I've owned which uses a digital gas gauge, but I'm fairly sure I understand it completely now even when there is not much detail about the gauge.

The fuel tank capacity is approximately 11.5 gallons, so each of the 10 bars represent a little more than 1 gallon of fuel. The range of the vehicle usually shows around 400 MPG for me so each bar also represents close to 40 miles per bar. I also notice that as the bar disappears after one half of the estimated gallon is consumed (i.e. 1st bar disappears after 5% of the entire tank is depleted).

A few other things that I would like to point out are regarding the low fuel light. Since I have a far commute to work, I end up over extending my preferred refueling limits. I always fill up my tank when only 1/4 of the tank is remaining, but I can't exactly stop on the Turnpike to refuel when there are no gas stations.. I notice that the indicator light comes when only 40-45 miles of fuel remains, below 30 miles and the display reads "---".

I had the unpleasant discovery of just how far I can go before the tank runs dry today and I wanted to share my find. When my gauge read "---" I had another 20 miles to go, just 10 miles to a completely empty tank. As I was leaving work to go to the nearest gas station, I noticed that the final bar blinks when there is less than 1% of the entire tank remaining. Its not a fast blink, I would say that its just as fast as the turn signal light.

In conclusion I would like to say that now I know when to definitely worrying about refueling. I would never advise anyone to drive any further than the nearest gas station when the low fuel light turns on, although the car is capable of doing another 40 miles after that point. This was something I was wondering for awhile and I learned first hand the limits of my car. I hope that I've helped the few wondering this question as well.

Good information thanks! One point a member stated on a post was the electric fuel pump in the 2012 RB. Its in the tank and is cooled off by the gas itself. Meaning don't run you take to empty if possible or you could possible eat away at your fuel pumps life.

*Disregard the former post, this is what was supposed to be fixed.*
