Woofer's comparison

Stock Woofer removal:
Only hand tools were used
Diagonal wire cutter, used to cut and seperate the speaker's brackets
Scissors, to trim the rubber surrounds from the speaker cone (left the rubber surrounds to help cushion the Infinity woofer)
Image

Infinity Woofer installed to stock speaker spacers
Only 4 drilled holes were needed for mounting. Speaker adapters were not used.

Stock vs Infinity tweeters installed

Infinity tweeter and Crossover installed
Input wiring using the factory tweeter connector removed from the tweeter as input to the crossover. Only the tweeters door wiring is used as input, the woofers are disconnected. The factory system does not have a dedicated signal to the woofer and tweeter. Infinity woofers wiring is tied to the center connectors on the crossover.
Space and location for the crossover was perfect.

soit78,
Nice to know it worked out well and well worth the effort.

glad it all worked out...can we assume pictures re coming?:(

I ordered a pair or replacement tweeters that should be here in a couple days..i am going to try just changing out the tweeters and see how it sounds.

Then maybe replace the front door mids maybe.

I went for an LPG 26n tweeter with a 2.2uf cap since that is the cap that is on the factory tweeter. I wanted to go 3.3uf...but mark from meniscus said i would be happy with the 2.2 going that shallow.

Put the MQ Quart comps in this morning...sound is better than i was expecting, but some adjustments still need to be made once i get the real tweeters for my sail panels in a couple days. I mounted the quarts as coax and listend with the tweeter at +0, -3db and -6db.

+0 ( flat ) was too much and -3db was really nice..and if i was not going to add a super tweeter i would have left them at -3db.

I put them at -6db figuring that the new tweeter would blend in nicely, but i expect that i may go back to -3db...as right now with the factory tweeters the sound is a little too warm for my liking.

They bolted right in...and i mounted the x-over onto the door and shaved away alot of the padding that is on the door panel...and it all buttoned up nicely.

I ran the wiring along with the rest of thw wiring in the door, and drill two small holes in the speaker bracket to let the wires behind the speaker.

Here is a couple pictures, i didn't take one of the finished door for some reason...but i will next time i take the door panels off.

I also trimmed away the ring that is on the door panel that surrounds the factory speaker...i did this thinking the quarts would be bigger than they were...so it really was not needed.

elantraVT,
By any chance do you have pics of the stock speakers or are they just like the ones already posted for the sedans.
I see you got a real workman's garage as much as a well used drill.

#245 · (Edited)
exactly the same...and i posted a picture earlier. They are riveted in, and it was nothing to drill them out. And they were in one piece like yours...so they had to be destroyed in order to reuse the baffle.

Notice the surround...GT's built in korea get the accordion surround usually found in pro audio speakers., where as the dedans built in the states get the rolled surround.

Finally got my Infinities installed this morning. (Yeah, I had a pro installer put them in. He had the tools and workspace, which I didn't.)

After reviewing the thread, I made sure to set the bass/mid/treble settings on my stereo to "0" beforehand, and also selected the "0 db" settings on the Infinity tweeters and front component crossover. Still fiddling with the sound settings on the head unit to find the best balance, but along with better highs I'm finding that I'm still getting better sound at lower settings and lower volume, with greatly-increased clarity across the range. Midrange, especially, seemed lacking with the factory speakers.

Bass isn't necessarily greater with the Infinities, but it seems tighter, and even with a mere +1 on the bass setting on the head unit "March of Cambreadth" still rattles the windows. :D I've currently got the mids at +3 and the treble at +5; with the old speakers I had to turn both the treble and mids all the way up. to get equivalent (or less, for the highs) sound.

Overall, I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. It's an upgrade well worth the money - thank you, silvergls! - and gives me a sound basis for further upgrades should I get bored with the stock head unit and power levels.

(Speaking of which: Alpine's got a compact amp rated at an honest 45WX4 RMS, that's about the length and two-thirds the width of a paperback novel and features speaker-level inputs, that would fit nicely under one of my front seats. That's the bad thing about this forum: I keep finding ways to spend more money on my car... :p)

Not sure if it would fit, but i am selling a really nice Arc Audio KS 300.4 amp..4x90watts. Its a little bigger than you described...but a much better amp.:00000732:

Alright, I have the Elantra limited with nav. and I'm looking into changing my speakers but I don't want to waste money so I have a few questions if anyone can help out!

- Should I change all four speakers... front and back, or front only (I'm thinking just the front because to me, I can't even hear the back speakers)?

- Will I get the full affects from new speakers with the basic audio setting from the stereo (nav) system? Or is it pointless to buy new speakers without changing the stereo?

- Infinity or Kenwood speakers?

- Will this void any warranty from the dealer?

Any other advice is welcome, and before anybody ask... NO, this is not a DIY project!

Changing out the fronts only is acceptable. You can always do the backs at a different time. They are there for fill only, so leave them be.
I would add a third brand to consider...the polk mm6501
Amazon.com: Polk Audio AA6514-A MM6501 6.5-Inch System Speaker System: Car Electronics

And no you won't void your warrantee.

I put MB Quart comps in my car, and i think they sound decent, but i am pulling them after only a week to go top shelf with a Pair of Hybrid Audio "Imagine I61-2V2's". The quarts were not quite sensitive enough and were being over powered by a set of super tweeters i installed. I plan on starting a thread when i have time to show the progress.

Very easy to install. The most difficult part is wiring it to the radio speaker outs. Why it was somewhat difficult is the tightness and awkwardness of the wiring harness location. The factory did not give much slack so I pretty much had to work sitting between the seats, sitting on the console.

Check the wiring or the connectors.

Got my MBQuarts out and my Hybrid Audio Imagines installed today...the quarts were nice....but the upgrade that the Hybrids give is insane....SQ improved dramatically, and the tweet in the sail panel blends perfect. I will have to do more listening...but so far i am very satisfied.

Its kind of a weird feeling...i just spend $300 on a set of coax speakers, but they sound so nice. I could mount them as comps, but they sound perfect with the tweeter as a Coax in the door.

Back in the day noone thought twice about spending $600-$900 on comps...and dropping a grand on an amp was no big deal. FF 20 years and i am a little on edge about the $300 on the H.A.T's.

But i am returning the Quarts and scraping my plans for a sub.

So the entire system cost me less than $400, and i am very happy

Got the fronts mounted this afternoon. Simple job once you get past the thought of taking a razor blade to your 6 month old speakers and gutting them!!! Still not 100% sure of the polarity though. I assumed the yellow and red was positive and blacks were negative on the tweeter connection that I cut off and hooked to the Infinity crossover input.
Stupid question time but it's been a while since I did any real stereo install work. Do the speaker to line level adapters come with the ability to kill mid and high frequencies so just the low end goes to the amp that's dedicated to the sub? Back in the day I had a sub that had a resistor or something in it that blocked all but the low end to it but it was after the amp (inside the sub speaker box) and that seems like it would put a strain on the amp.

I also picked up the Kenwood SW10 subwoofer. I was going to locate it under the driver’s seat but I have a 2013 Elantra Limited and the power seat parts are in the way and it won’t fit. I’m considering placing the sub on its side on the backseat floor between the seats directly behind the armrest console. The long side of the sub on the floor and the base toward the rear seats. Any thoughts or other suggestions? thanks!

I think that would be good. I have a friend who has it placed loosely on the floor of the backseat area in his pickup. He has the cords wrapped together with slack so it can be moved around if needed.

What did you use to mount the crossover?
I used several strips of 3M emblem tape. Both the crossover's backside and the door panel are flat in that area making it perfect.

Hi, thanks for all participants on this forum, i am really helpfull and newbie in this forum, already done with rear speaker with infinity 6032cf and now will install for infinity 6030cs for front next, my little question is :
1.That was really no needed amp, because my 6032cf worked out for 60watt-180watt each, and 6030cs worked out for 90watt-270watt each ?
2.May i know what wattage came out from head unit (my head unit without navigation and xm satelite) ?
3.where is the location of external amplifier, because i didn't found in the trunk ?
Maybe all participant on this forum can give me more information about hyundai elantra 2012,......
Thanks

Hello everyone , thanks for all the help so far. I started installing the Infinity 6030 and was wondering about hooking up the crossover. Would i use the cord going to the tweeter as the power to the crossover and just cut , tape up , and wire nut the cord going to the woofer. I'm just doing the front speakers ,no amp or subs yet.

You could use either one. Only one is needed as the input for the crossover. I choose the tweeters because of the location.

One quick question:

1. Why go 6030cs in front and 6032cf in rear? Is it not possible to go 6030cs front & rear? I believe they would fit but I'm curious if it is just not practical, or maybe overkill?

I intend on powering them with an amp, as well as placing a sub (likely a 10-12' bazooka tube in the trunk).

Thanks everyone!
