Climate control issues

My 2008 Veracruz is having some issues with the climate control system. The drivers side and rear controls all blow hot air, but the passenger side only blow cold/cool no matter the temp setting or vents. Is there a valve that controls this or am I looking at an expensive HVAC repair? I bought this about 3 months ago to replace my Sante Fe and of course the 60K warranty just expired. Any insight would be appreciated.

Good news is that it's probably just a mechanical or sensor malfunction downstream of the expensive bits. Maybe Fault Code 32 or 33 on the attached diagnostics chart from hmaservice.com.

Bad news is that you'll need somebody smarter than me to actually fix the darn thing. Good luck.

You're welcome Mark.

I'll wager you've got a stuck gate or some other simple mechanical issue. Hopefully it can be accessed from under the dash, as opposed to removing it. You might want to get an account at hmaservice.com, for diagrams, instructions, etc. It's free but needs a U.S. address... I always suggest Beverly Hills 90210 :)

I too am having a very similar issue with my 2008 Veracruz, with a slight twist (if you have it set on defrost, hot air comes out to the driver's side upper vent that tends to blow towards the driver's side mirror, while the main vent just below it remains cool... bizarre!). Obviously we haven't had an answer to the issue yet. The AC works just fine, which is paramount in Florida. Still, it would be nice to have consistent heat blowing out of ALL vents on a "heat" setting (when set on either one of the three possible settings respectfully)...

defrost mode will not blow air out of the center stack vents. it directs air to the windshield and side windows.

heat mode will direct heat to the floor areas...both front and rear passengers

a/c mode will direct air to all of the dash vents.

you can manually change some of the settings yourself depending on model. what you can't change is where the air in defrost mode is directed.

old american cars had a 'bi-level' mode..which directed air to both the footwell and dash areas.

hey, on 2/13, coming home later in the evening, my entire HVAC system shut down...like it lost power (well, technically, it did). i had zip. not even the blue backlit lights. nothing. wouldn't turn on. and it was cold...somewhere in the teens in temperature.

got home, shut it off, waited a minute, turned the car back on and it worked. been working since. now, i'm wondering if it will do it again or not....and of course, i'm at 59K+ miles...so getting it to 'replicate' for the dealer is off the table.

Friendly suggestion: Even if nobody is able to help with your problem, when you find the solution please take a minute to share it with this forum. It's good karma to make a deposit to the knowledge pool, because you never know when you'll need to make a withdrawal. :)

HVAC issues..

Here's a thought..I have owned and liked owning a few Chrysler minivans in the past,(No bashing, PLZ!! :) and they ALL have some sort of Self Check /calibration system built into the venting systems of the HVAC, done thru a process of pressing and hold X button while holding Y button, or whatever..
Had to do this with HVAC issues on my 03 Grand Caravan while diagnosing A/C/ blender door issues..
LOng story short...
Anyone ever read about this type self diagnosis procedure on Hyundai models of Any type? Nevermind our VC's..
I have a Mechanic with acess to a tech site that has this info..don't want to waste his time looking for a Loch Ness Monster of info if it's not something they have built into our cars...
Anyone heard of this being done?

Hi
did anyone ever figure this out? I have nice hot air drivers side, but no heat passenger front. I do have hot air from top vents in drivers/passenger 2nd row.
The fan control still works on both sides (goes faster / slower).

After consulting some online parts diagrams I think the issue is the "blend door actuator"... of course, Hyundai doesnt call it that.

The part is called the Control Actuator on the passenger side 971603J000
On the drivers side it is actually called what it is Temperature Door Actuator 971593J000
The naming tripped me up as there was no reference to LH or RH and the names are different on each side

Air blend actuator access?

Here is some help for the air blend actuator I found on this forum.
Original Post from TimH3502
Search for "Blend Door Temp Motor"

It's a little different for the Veracruz getting the glove box off, but the actuator motor is the same.

PS. Does anyone know how to get the glove box off on the 2008 Veracruz?

I removed the 4 screws and 2 bolts from the housing (step 4, glove box3.pdf). It still feels like the housing is attached somehow on both ends. I've removed the cabin air filter tray, and it still feels like there are more attachments (more screws, bolts, or clips etc) on both left and right edges. There is also a on/off button (not sure what this does yet) on the left side of the housing I disconnected.

2008 Veracruz. Finally did it. Fixed it with a blend door actuator replacement. Finally figured out how to remove the glove box housing. Just two "A-frame" clips held the housing in place. Pull real hard on the housing and the clips will let go (they may break). After the glove box housing was removed, and air ducts removed, replacing the actuator is very easy.

Hello, I hope it is okay to jump in on this old thread but I am having similar issues with my 08' VC. I have not tried to see if I can get different temps between passenger and drive but the air, hot or cold only comes out of the front vents. It will not move to windshield defrost of floor. My question is does the Blend Door Actuator control this process as well or is there another actuator I should be looking at. My research has indicated that there is a ‘Mode Actuator’ but I have no idea where to begin looking for it.
