my 2007 santa fe 2.2 diesel , has a small oil leak on intercooler . Mechanic says turbo is gone ,$3000 to fix .
I put drip tray under but hardly any oil coming out ,but last night parked car to open gates ,and when idling smoke was coming from exhaust .228,000 on clock . Is it worth fixing turbo ?

Some points to consider:
How sure are you of the mechanics' diagnosis?
What is the car worth?
Can it be driven with just a topping up of oil? (Some cars will go OK for years in that condition, with just a topping up of the oil. Can you put up with it and drive it till it dies?).
Time to indulge yourself in a new car???

Thanks for all that. The mechanic has been working on car for a while with no probs.Trading car at this stage is not an option . Topping oil sounds the option . Ta

I had an old Toyota that went for 7 extra years with me topping up the oil. Other than that it didn't have a problem! It was only when the fumes got too bad inside the car that I gave it up! (driving in the middle of winter with all the windows down.... Those were the days!)

I guess keep the oil up and hope the turbo keeps going . Ta
