Automatic Parking Brakes

I have a 2022 Santa Fe PHEV and a 2021 RAV4 Prime. I like how they both automatically turn on the parking brake when shifting to P while on an incline.

The RAV4 Prime goes one step further and automatically disengages the parking brake when shift to R or D.

Is there a way to do that on the Santa Fe? I feel like I looked everywhere in the manual and on the infotainment screen. It would be so much convenient if we could turn on this functionality.

On my 2020 Sonata Limited Hybrid all you have to do is put it into drive or reverse and accelerate and it disengages the parking brake. May be the same with the SF

One thing that I missed on that was the seat belt. I sometimes have the habit of not putting my seat belt on immediately, and the EPB would remain engaged.

You’re right! If I put on the seatbelt, then stepping on the accelerator pedal automatically disengages the parking brake.

It’s still a pretty strange feeling having to step on the pedal for a split second, when I just want to just coast downhill on the driveway. I wish there was a way to toggle this to behave like the RAV4.

Something I don't understand - I would LOVE if the parking brake simply automatically set it self when putting the car into park EVERY time, not just when it is on inclines. I also don't like feeling the car rock when simply in park, and I don't love the weight of the car resting on the transmission (just preference, I understand it's not really an issue). Gear into Park, brake sets. Gear into Drive, brake releases when you tap the gas. That would be sufficient.

Here is what I discovered on my2023 Santa Fe SEL.

Yes, the brake comes on automatically when I shut down on an incline. The trick is the order of it when leaving. I have to put it in reverse or drive first, then release the brake switch and I have a nice smooth move.

If I release the brake first, then put it in a gear (even with my foot on the brake), I get a transmission kabang!

Also, always super fun times is in a car wash and before having to break and put in drive, I have to stop on the brake completely stopping the car, pushing the atb button, and then choosing drive once again and moving on. Multiple times have I been rear-ended because those owners don't understand thes situation, and also that the attendants there don't give two flying f**^s
