hi, i live in dhaka, bangladesh and i've just bought a 2011 sonata 2.0 from the local dealer (only hyundai dealer) here. during the pre delivery demonstration of the car i was told that the car had speed sensing auto door locks, but that wasn't the case after i took delivery of the car. i read in the user manual that both the auto door lock/unlock options can be activated from the trip computer. i tried doing the same and although the computer takes me to the auto lock/unlock options, they seem to be deactivated in my car. i contacted the local dealer here but they couldn't really give me a concrete solution except that they would contact Korea and that probably it would not be possible to have the speed sensitive auto lock/unlock installed in the car because of cabling and fuse box architecture (personally, i don't buy their logic).
i went through a few forums and found out that this is option can be activated by the dealer. is that true?
wud appreciate if sm1 cud help me out here.....

You can set it so the doors lock when you put it in something other than park, not speed
but in order to be able to do that i would need to do it through the trip computer rite? it takes me to da lock/unlock options but when i try to do go inside these options the computer shows me a (!) mark.

Don't worry about speed sensitive locking, speed is so slow where you live so your car will never lock! LOL! Haha, I'm Just kidding yaar! My roots are from India so I'm just teasing ya! But yeah we don't have speed sensitive locking, just moving in/out of shift gate auto locking.
good one dude! i'm sure u're aware of the average speed on the roads n dhk. however, i don't even seem to be able to activate the shift gate auto locking option either. the trip computer isn't allowing me to do that.

Just a dumb question. Are you trying to program this with the car in anything but park or is your car a manual? Also, in the US spec. cars we have two buttons on the steering wheel that we use to navigate through the menu on the trip computer and it is slightly confusing at first when trying to program anything. Not sure what the exclamation point means though.

my car's an automatic. what i would ideally prefer is da computer to lock da doors da moment i put da shift lever to either R or D or automatic locks to kick in once da speed went beyond 15/20 km/hr; and unlock automatically when i put da shift to P. there's only one trip button on da steering wheel. i guess dats da difference between da asian version and da us version. da us version also comes equipped wid bluetooth connectivity but da asian version apparently does not.

Hi, what page in the owners manual (in the US) does it talk about options you have on the auto door locks. right now, mine is set to lock when taken out of park and unlock when put back in park. I would prefer a speed setting where it locks when I hit 15 MPH and then unlock when I turn the car off.

Thanks,!

On the trip computer it allows you to set it for shift or for speed. I set mine for speed but I haven't tried it out yet to see if it works.
I have a 2011 Sonata Limited. I can confirm that my car UNLOCKS the doors when the gear selector is put in PARK.
Once the car is in gear, my door LOCK when the speed reaches approximately 10 MPH.

The following is excerpted from the Owner's Manual

You can activate or deactivate some auto
door lock/unlock features in the vehicle
setting as follows;
• Speed sensing auto door lock
• Auto door unlock by unlocking the
driver's door
• Auto door unlock when the ignition
key is removed from the ignition
switch or the smart key is removed
from the smart key holder.
• Auto door lock/unlock by shifting the
transmission shift lever out of P
(Park) or into P (Park)
If you want to activate or deactivate
some door lock/unlock feature, refer to
the “vehicle setting” in this chapter.

The following section begins on page 4-53:

Vehicle setting
When the vehicle is at a standstill, pressing
the TRIP button for more than 2 seconds
with the engine start/stop button in
the ON position or engine running, the
LCD screen on the cluster will change to
the vehicle setting mode.
You can change the item by pressing the
TRIP button and choose the item by
pressing the RESET button.
Auto door lock
Off - The auto door lock operation will be
canceled.
Speed - All doors will be automatically
locked when the vehicle speed
exceeds 9.3mph (15km/h).
Shift Lever (if equipped) -
All doors will be automatically locked if
the shift lever is shifted from the P(Park)
position to the R(Reverse), N(Neutral) or
D(Drive) position.
Auto door unlock
Off - The auto door unlock operation will
be canceled.
Key Out - All doors will be automatically
unlocked when the ignition
key is removed from ignition
switch (or smart key is
removed from the smart key
holder).
Door - All doors will be automatically
unlocked if the driver's door is
unlocked inside.
Shift Lever (if equipped) -
All doors will be automatically unlocked if
the shift lever is shifted to the P(Park)
position.

and continues on 4-54:

Two-press unlock
Driver Door 1st Press - The driver's
door will unlock when pressing the
unlock button on the transmitter or smart
key, pressing the button of the driver's
outside door handle with the smart key,
or inserting the key into the key hole of
the driver's outside door and turning the
key toward the rear of the vehicle. All
doors will unlock when pressing the
unlock button on the transmitter or smart
key, pressing the button of the driver's
outside door handle with the smart key,
or inserting the key into the key hole of
the driver's outside door and turning the
key toward the rear of the vehicle within
4 seconds.
All Doors 1st Press - All doors will
unlock when pressing the unlock button
on the transmitter or smart key, pressing
the button of the driver's outside door
handle with the smart key, or inserting
the key into the key hole of the driver's
outside door and turning the key toward
the rear of the vehicle.

i have gone through the owner's manual and you have rightly mentioned the excerpts from the manual. However, the moment I try and access the Auto Lock and Unlock options in the trip computer I am shown a (!) mark and not allowed to customize the settings. To be honest with you it is quite baffling to have the options in the computer but not be able to customize the same according to your needs. The dealer here isn't much help either. They have just brushed it off saying that the option is not available in this particular lot. My bone of contention is that if the trip computer has the options, then I should be able to activate them if the dealer programs it for me, but I don't think I'll have any luck on that front.

As a prestigious Hyundai user I am kindly requesting for the advise from the Hyundai Korea, how this happened to my car and also for some other cars in that batch. Whether it is manufacturing defect? I think this may be the defect of the lock unit supplied by external supplier to Hyundai.I wish to add this option to my Sonata.
Please note that MAY2010 and OCT2010 makes has auto lock feature.
The Chasis no: of my Sonata 2011 is Make DEC2010.

I under stood that the production after may 2010 doesn't have this option, either by mistake or by purpose as cost cutting.
