Anyone tried to throw a carplay compatible head unit into a 13-16 Santa Fe? I've seen some '17 stock head units on ebay and have wondered whether it would work.
we dont have santa fe, but i just installed pioneer avh-4400nex in one of the elantras. total was 610, not including a 150$ rebate that just came in a couple of days ago. it was on sale from crutchfield, so it also came with wiring harness, steering wheel controls, and faceplate. it has wireless carplay and android auto. the wireless is really nice, i like it a lot. the other car has a pioneer avic-8200nex, but no wireless. i did the install, and it was easy. took a bit longer, because i soldered/heat shrinked all the connections. my wife even asked me if i also installed new speakers, because it sounded so much better than the stock radio.

I bit the bullet and purchased a 2017 head unit off ebay to give it a try. Unforunately did not work. Everything plugs in fine from the old one except for the antenna but the screen never comes on. It will load CDs and eject and the backlights work but nothing else. Oh well... It was worth a try.

Maybe the pins are lined up differently!

I am wondering if you have an update on this?
Have you been able to find a pin out schematic for the 2014 vs the 2017 head unit??
I have a 2014 also and have been wondering about car play working.
I will also see if I can find some pin out details.

What did you do with the 2017 head unit?
