Accent Gl - Won't Restart On Short Trips

Our high kms 1999 Accent GL (Canada) has started to act-up on short trips. No engine trouble lights. I have replaced fuel filter, plugs, leads etc.

On short trips of about 5 kms, it fails to restart. Turns over fine. Wait an hour and it usually will start. Seems to be temperature related and some sensor is failing to return to normal.

Removing the neg battery terminal resets the ECU and it starts fine immediately. Does anyone have an idea about this, or do I have to go to the dealer for diagnostics?

Thanks

Chris

......Yup..... & have Hyundai also check your crankshaft position sensor at the same time!.

:whistling: I had this problem it would'nt restart when the engine was hot, I replaced the crankshaft sensor and it is fine now. Check with a Ohm's meter on your crankshaft position sensor while the engine refuse to start (hot), if there is no reading then, replace the sensor. If you wait too long to check for open sensor, your sensor will cool and read normal again, it is kind of tricky to catch. Good luck!

just to throught the info out there, i have a 97 accent 1.5 sohc and i had the same problem here and there. It turned out to me the o2 sensors right by the manifold. It might be related to your problem. Everythime it didnt start, i had to disconnect the o2 sensor wire, right by the coil (trace the wire to find the plug). Might want to try next time it doesnt want to start. Hope this helps.
