Hi all, briefly scrolled through some posts but I havent seen this issue yet. My 2012 elantra has had this problem twice now. There is an in dash light that randomly comes on. Ive heard of this light being called the "slip indicator" or the positive control indicator. Its the pic of the rear of the car with wavy tire tracks behind it. The first time it happened was 2 months ago and it went of within 15 minutes of driving. This time, it has been on all day I just went out and started the car and its still there. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue. Im sure its going to go off again before I can get it to the dealer so they can check it out, so I havent bothered calling them!

Just a little more info, I am aware there is a "positive traction" button near the ECO button and I do always keep this on. The light in question is not the same light that comes on when you turn THAT button off...THIS light (the one in question) appears just to the left of the other.

Thanks for any info anyone has. Sorry for my complete lack of car knowledge lol!

That usually means the traction control is engaged but it shouldn't stay lit unless there is a problem. It could be a problem or maybe just an error. Unplug your negative battery cable (with the car off) and plug it back in 30 minutes later. The quick method is unplug negative battery cable wait 2-3 minutes depress the brake pedal and hold 10 seconds, repeat 5 times then reattach cable and start car. This will reset the car computer and if its a real error it will still be there or it will come back soon. FYI you will also lose your radio presets and stuff. I successfully used the quick method when I accidentally set off my check engine light.

Just wondering, where you sitting with the car idling for an extended period? I had this happen twice. The first time it caught me when I saw the display, but I do remember sitting in the car and talking with a friend for awhile, wasting gas. The other time was the same thing. Pulling away from work but sat with the car idling and chatting with coworkers. Same issue, traction control light on. However I will add that the car drove normally. Shut down the car for the day, went out later in the evening, started it up and no light. Both times, identical situations and the same results.

I will mention this to the dealer on my next oil change visit but 'til then I'm just watching it, and not wasting gas idling and chatting.

BTW, the owner's manual does mention to take the car in immediately for service once this light is activated. But I've seen quite a bit of vehicles with a service check light displayed only to be an error message. Still it might be a good idea to take it in to the dealer for if anything, just to know.

Both time this happened was right after I started the car for the first time of the given days. Also, just as I suspected...the next morning after this post I went out to the car...started the engine and noticed the light was still on...as i began to drive it immediately turned off. Thanks someguy for the info however I think ill be more apt to make the dealer handle this situation if it happens again. I mean really? The car is 2 months old I don't think I should have to be disconnecting the battery to fix a problem this early in its life! Considering ive already had it in the dealership because the blue tooth speaker went out and they had to replace it...im hoping this doesn't turn out to be a lemon! Thanks again guys
