2012 Accent Knock Sensor Location

Hello everyone, I cannot for the life of me find the location of the knock sensor in my 2012 Accent. I just replaced the radiator and had everything off up front unobstructed and couldn't find it. Looked in back, sides, but am completely stumped. I have found information on earlier models but not 2012+. If any Hyundai mechanics or others who have replaced one could tell me precisely where it's at I would be very grateful.

Yes, it gave a knock/detonation sensor code and has been pinging during acceleration and uphill driving. The part is cheap so I thought it would be a good idea. I already did a carbon removal when it first started and that didn't help. Additives didn't help. I would be very happy to learn where this sensor is on 2012 model year if you're familiar. When I had the radiator out I could see what looks like the gray electrical connector but behind it is the intake manifold ( I think) and according to Hyundai diagrams the sensor is right there behind the manifold. I'm stumped on this one.

What was the DTC in Pxxxx format ?

Knock sensor is bolted to block, between cylinders 2 & 3 just below deck.. Intake plenum and GDI fuel rail hide it real well..

We seen 0326 DTC recently, went around with one a few time, Hyundai recently release program update

Thank you very much. This makes sense since I can see that gray electrical connector right out front under the manifold so now I just have to find a way down to the lower left area you've shown here. I really hope I can get to this without getting underneath the car as I don't have a lift like a shop.

Have the program update done first. They are usually done free by the dealer and it may solve your problem without having to spend an hour upside down on your back with dirt falling in your face.

I know...it looks like 15 minutes...you'll find out...:D

Just now seeing this thread. I just recently took my 2013 Hyundai accent se to my mechanic to make sure everything is alright (I like doing this every year, even when the car isn't giving me any issues) and after an inspection this is what the paperwork says.

ENGINE SENSORS. STORED CODE IN SYSTEM - LIGHT NOT CURRENTLY ON
P 326 KNOCK SENSOR 1 CURCUIT/RANGE PERFORMANCE BANK 1
SU13907 KNOCK SENSOR
REMOVE & REPLACE KNOCK SENSOR.

My mechanic said the computer gave him a code or something like that (I don't know much about cars) and he told me it would be about $450 to replace it. Now that I read this thread, I'm not sure if I should shell out all that money yet. Is this something the dealership can fix for me by just updating the car system? How do I know if its a computer issue and not the actual knock sensor? and my last question, I bought my car at a ford dealership, should I take it to the dealership where I bought it from or should I take it to the Hyundai dealership? Thanks and I'm sorry about all the questions.

Nope. I am going to take the word of someone who knows what he's talking about. I'm going to go for the update first, and if it doesn't solve the problem I'll replace it. I'm assuming the closeup is from underneath since I had the radiator out this past weekend and didn't see it. Hopefully an update will work. Sbr711, thanks for your help and patience with my questions and also thanks to everyone else who answered.

Let me know what happen with dealer.. print the text from previous post to have in hand outlining the program in question.. all the have to do is plug in GDS and head straight to ECU UPGRADE, read ROM, and see if it offered up for install.. they can check it in service aisle with "tablet", maybe do it in the aisle if they motivated

Well, I went to the service desk and they took the VIN and said there were no PCM updates or recalls for this car. I showed them the code details posted here and they said if they see nothing in the computer they can't perform the update. Basically refused to do it. I asked if the car needed higher octane and they said no, 87.

Kinda sounds like they want the $79-129 service fee they charge to connect the code reader.

BTW, I run 91-93 octane exclusively in my Accent, and get excellent performance and fuel economy.

Try a couple tanks and see if it makes a difference.

Of course, I drive a lot in the hills of Vermont, and you can feel the difference on the steeper hills. Bogs down much less on the higher octane.

On the flats there isn't a big difference.

If it has not already been solved,- let the dealer know you have a knocking complaint, and system still hasn't shown SEL codes, they are required to perform ECU ROM ID check, if the ID matched any on the list they are required to perform the upgrade.
There are cases I have worked on that even though the ID is not on the list I still do the upgrade solving the knocking problem, saving a good part. While there are other cases that the intake valves have so much carbon buildup that deep cleaning and soft scraping is required to solve the knocking. Oh! and after ECU upgrade a reset adaptive values is important or it will do nothing.

Thank you. I'm pretty certain I'll be doing some hand holding so it's good to have this info. ****, when I called one place and said I am having an issue with detonation, the "guy" said, "what, you are having issues with "demolition"?" ...... It's going to be a little bit of an uphill struggle I think.

Because the Hyundai engineers determined it to be a program concern, so they come up with update for the PCM to change DTC logic..

FORD dealer doesnt have Hyundai access/equipment for doing updates to Hyundai PCM.. see the local Hyundai dealer of choice

#32 ·
Just go in and tell fella you want your PCM updated for the nagging 0326 code you have.. When they do update, tell the fella you want a screenshot (print) of the "UPDATE COMPLETE" message showing new ROM..

Procedures called out in the TSB, but if they seen plenty of them, they'll know exactly what to do.. we had go around with couple 1.6 GDI with 0326,, one of them was maybe 3-4 visits with DTC re-occuring,, then finally an update to revise logic.

So I went to the dealership today and I showed them all the info and they told me they can't do anything about it because the light is not on. That the light needs to be on for them to fix anything with the knock sensor. :( Is this something I should be worried about? The guy said it's safe to drive and told me not to worry. The car isn't making noises or anything.

I don' get it...this came up in the "Active Topics" list, so either I'm not seeing a post, the Forum has sure gone crazy, or I've managed to time warp back 9 months...

Currently sitting at 115,000km on mine 2013 and the P0326 has appeared 4 times in the last month. I highly doubt the knock sensor is at fault here but I'm not sure what to try replacing first. Has anyone made any headway or had the dealership actually replace anything? I'm in Canada so I'm gonna get the song and dance that the PCM upgrade is not available to me. Engine pinging has gotten quite bad on acceleration over the last ~40-60k kilometers.

mgabe, If you haven't replaced the spark plugs yet I would recommend it....I noticed an obvious increase in power when I changed mine out. It also helped with this cursed Pinging Issue, but alas, the Pinging is still there and just as annoying as ever.
