New to the forum. Have a 2011 Sonatas. Recently the interior lights won't turn off or dim and go off when the door closes. Any thoughts on what the cause could be? Thank you....
For me it was the Brake Switch. I would come out in morning and dome lights (Front and Rear) would already be on. Also, while driving they would pop on periodically. Doors, Trunk and Hood, all closed and the switch is on Door. It went away for about 4 months and now it's back. So, I am also having brake and running light issues. I looked it up and there are recalls on 2011 and maybe 2012 Hyundai Sonatas for issues with the brake pedal (or connected parts) causing various issues. You may want to do a little research on that to see if that helps.
Since I never heard back, I just decided to see what I could do myself. The rocker switch area has platic where the metal strips for power are located. This seems to have worn away. Switch has OFF/DOOR/ON. Most of us use door. When the plastic gets worn away, the connectors allow themselves to touch, like in the ON position. Using a tiny flat head, I stuffed a piece of electrical tape in between the connection.
I had to experiment, with it hanging, to make sure I was putting it in the right place. Only thing is I no longer have an ON function. That doesn't bother me. If I need light, I can still use the "MAP" light function by pressing the lens or unlatch the door. Being DOOR and OFF are more important anyway.
