The 2011 Hyundai Azera GLS gets an enhanced 3.3-liter V6 with variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust side; previously it was only on the intake side. The result is an estimated 260 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 233 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm — this is up from 234 hp and 226 lb-ft in the 2010 Azera.

Hyundai predicts the revised V6 will return 20 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway — up from 18/26 on the 2010 version. Also helping economy is the new six-speed automatic transmission, which the company engineered in-house. Hyundai says it's 26 pounds lighter than last year's five-speed automatic. It's standard on all 2011 Hyundai Azeras. Expect to see it used widely in Hyundai's line, as this transmission is compatible with just about any transversely mounted engine.

The 3.8-liter DOHC V6 in the 2011 Azera Limited also gets a horsepower bump, again thanks to the addition of variable valve timing on the intake side. The revised engine delivers an estimated 283 hp at 6,000 rpm and 263 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm — up from 263 and 257, respectively.

Hyundai said it also expects fuel-economy gains with the bigger V6. The previous 3.8-liter V6 returned 17 mpg in city driving and 26 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The revised version is expected to return 19 mpg in city driving and 27 mpg on the highway.

The 2011 Azera models also get a fuel economy indicator that displays a green light to indicate when driving habits are contributing to good fuel economy.

Cosmetic changes on the 2011 Hyundai Azera include a new front bumper fascia, redesigned headlamps, a new chrome grille and round foglights. The rear gets new LED taillights and a redesigned bumper. Cabin changes are minor and include aluminum graining on the center console.

Great Azera is going to be back. I new look more power better mileage. I love my Azrea and in another three weeks I'm headed to Florida. This year I will be driving my Azera down and back. Heading to Venice and Naples. My buddy just drove his Azera to Las Vegas and back last month and had no problems. He has over 45000 miles on the car and said it was a very relaxing ride all the way.

I think overall the Azea is a very nice car. I would buy another Hyundai for sure. I like the Genesis Coupe but would like to see Hyundai come out with a few new colors. Plus some different colors of leather for the interior. Black just doesn't get it. Their red paint is not very attractive. I have the beige on my Azera and it looks good doesn't show dust but the interior is hard to keep clean with cream carperts. Might be great if you live in the south but with all of this snow up here this winter and more coming it is almost impossible to keep the thing clean inside.

Not sure if I like the rear of the 2011 Azera? Need to look at it some more. Looks like a old Ford. Oh well the good news is Azera is going to be around for a few more years.

The suspension problems is only clunks, just a hollow noise but as far a real suspension problems my 2007 Azera doesn't have serious problems. I can live with the clunk as I have my radio on most of the time and when I don't the noise really isn't that bad but it is there. I would think by now Hyundai has taken care of that problem but now they need to make sure the parts that they are putting on their cars are quality not like the road that Toyota and Honda have seen of late.

I think that Hyundai has managed to completely separate the Azera from the Sonata Limited.

Personally, I think Hyundai realized that the outgoing Sonata Limited V6 was so similar in appearance and features to the Azera that it was probably stealing sales FROM the Azera. Yes...the Azera was more bigger and made with more luxurious materials, and certain features that the Sonata did not offer. But after looking at both and driving both some people probably felt the Azera wasn't worth the extra money.

NOW... the current Sonata doesn't offer a V6, has an interior that is geared more towards sport than traditional luxury, and it sports features such as paddle shifters, sport seats, a firmer suspension, and an very aggressive shape.

I think that the Azera is Hyundai's traditional entry level Luxury Sedan ala Mercedes/Lexus. The Genesis is the full blown Luxury Sports Sedan ala BMW or AMG; while the Sonata is now the entry level sports sedan with more of an emphasis on Sport than Luxury (a competitor to the Acura TL, or Volkswagen CC).

Hyundai now has a fleet of sedans that don't necessarily compete with one another at completely different price levels. Also, not offering a V6 in the Sonata helps to push Hyundai closer to the magical 35MPG average and will help them maintain there strangle hold as the Car manufacturer with EPA's highest MPG average.

Please don't compare the Genesis to an AMG. That is just so far off it's not even funny. Apples and oranges with this one all the way. The Genesis can compete with the BMW 5-series and lower Mercedes-Benz series. The Azera has had suspension issues with faulty front shocks; those who don't think so must have pretty good streets. It seems to be an intermittent manufacturing defect with the early shocks that were put into the 2006-2008 Azera. If the defect is present, the Azera wallows and bounces too much over dips (especially long dips) in the road.

I like new engines in Azera 2011.
I would not mind swapping my Azzy to the new one since new 3.3 will be strong as old 3.8 will better fuel economy.
Does anyone know when new model will be available in Canada ?

BTW. Will Azera come with fully covered trunk interior ?
2007 has all-cover, but 2008 got cheap and Hyundai did not cover trunk interior :(

From what I read the 3.3 is stronger than the 3.8 and get more MPG. The 3.3 has been redesigned has more torque. My 2006 Azera has a nice plush fully carpert mat. Sure makes it easy to clean but then again it looks elegant. I think that was an option that came with the 2006. Sure hope Hyundai doesn't try to cut corners.

My 06 had the rear deck where the speakers are covered in the trunk. Along with both a nice carpeted mat, and the rubber cargo mat/tray. The rubber tray I do miss in my lexus. Need to get one. Kept the carpet like new, and it was easy to pull the rubber mat out and hose it off.

Im sure the 3.3 V6 is the exact same one from the Korean Market 3.3 Genesis. Anyways the Azera looks really good, it is a very wise move to make the Sonata a luxury 4 cylinder only and keep the Azera with V6 Power. Now those seeking V6 power will automatically go to the Azera. Good Job Hyundai!

Agree on the Sonata move by Hyundai however if they continue to stand by Azera they will need to advertise the car to sell it. Not many people even know Hyundai makes a Azera. I had poeple say what kind of car is that? Is that a Hyundai? In my section of town there are only three people who drive an Azera. Go to a dealer and maybe you may see five a the most.

Hyundai forgot about the Azera.

Advertisement is very needed for this car, especially in the North American Market. Not so much in the middle east because it is a popular model. I was actually surprised to see how my dealer arranged his vehicles. There is now a section of cars located far from the rest and they included: Azera, Veracruz, Genesis Coupe, Genesis Sedan, and also the old Centennial (Equus). Does this mean that Hyundai is going to split off these cars or make other dealers make a seperate section of them? Only time will tell...

I noticed a while back Hyundai Canada removed all reference to the Azera from the web site. I assumed this meant that it was no longer being sold in Canada. I have not heard that officially but it does seem odd that they would take all the model info off the site. The last time the Azera was on the site was for the 2009 model year.

That's pretty impressive... I'm glad the car is still around, and Hyundai has gotten smart about just about everything that was done half-***ed with the '06-'07, and to a lesser extent, '08.

For those who have stuck around and watched the board... did they ever revise the dashboard pad so that it no longer cracks? Are the dasboards from '08s and '09s cracking the same way the earlier ones did?

Thanks!
